LUCAN - The Lucan Arena's financial numb: rc don't i"c and
that's good news for Lucan and area taxpayers.
Though always operating with a deficit, the Lucan Arena has been
generating more *revenue and keeping costs down more effectively
than budgeted:for in recent years. That, means the -arena has to give
money hack to its major funders; the• Village. of Lucan. and Bid-
dulph. McGillivray and London townships: to make their hooks bal-
ance.
Lucan council learned at a, recent meeting the arena has set anew
record for over hudgeting..Lucan paid the lion's share. 47 per cent or
$16,442, of the 'arena's Total '96 budget of$40.200. But the arena's
• year end Iedger_came in at $9,283 (plus thccost of an ice machine).
Now Lucan could get hack almost all of its '97 share of $12,690 -
of the total $27,000. budget. In the Basi the arena has given. the mu-
- nicipalities a rebate, but Lucan administrator Ron Reymer said vil-
Iagc council may decide to not pay the arena its -regular installments
. until the bciokshalance.. - -
"1 suggest we rcviea •the financing of this and not approve this."
councillor Rosemary Gahlingcr-Beaune said. .•
One problem the arena may have is that many user groups -haven't
paid their entire bills fou last 'year yet:
Bufthe-arena's financial snafu is looked on ar;a positive. thing:
`'It's. good news. really." Reeve -Rob Brady said during a later. in-
`- tervicw: "The arena is• working more efficiently and working to-
wards.a balanccd.hudget. Bui it is slightl embarrassing."

coach Peter Bakker said. "pat. still, they didn't give • up.
They didn't hang their head;;." Lucan has lost their last
