Zurich Citizens News, 1981-03-05, Page 10Page 10 Citizens News March 5, 1961 • 'Showbiz' comes to Zurich arena The theme was `Showbiz' as an estimated 500 attended the Zurich -Grand Bend Figure Skating Club carnival -show. The show, held Sunday at the Zurich arena, was produced and directed by the club's professional figure skaters, Jeff Truemner and Marcie Sawruk. Fred Haberer, the Huron County warden, and his wife Audrey were masters of ceremony. Club members skated to themes from various Broadway shows. and films. The curtain opener, was skaters from the in- termediate group; Lisa Bedard, Donna Gingerich, Andrea Hendrick, Dawn McAdams, Kathy Merner, Roxanne Overholt. Kathy Schenk, Sonya Shantz, ITeather Westlake, and Beth -Sweeney. The girls skated to 'Another Opening, Another Show". The next feature was the junior elementary and basic groups. The boys4 skating to "Standing on the Corner"; were: Charlie Ducharme, Douglas Finlay, Derrick McGee, Kevin Overholt, and Cam Rader. Trudie Decker, Dwana Foreman. Shannon Keller, and Debbie kegler skated to "I Enjoy Being a Girl". A "Welcome to the world of Smurfs" was given by the junior girls of the beginners and stroking groups. These were: DeAnn Foreman, Tina Grainger, Tana Geiger, Tracy Jeffrey, Jacqueline Koehler. Jamie McGee, Jodie McGee,- Jennifer McGee, Danielle McKinnon, CURTAIN OPENER — Girls in the intermediate group skated to the song Another opening, another show, at the Zurich -Grand Bend skating carnival held Sunday at the Zurich arena. Included are Lisa Bedard, Donna Gingerich, Andrea Hendrick, Dawn McAdams, Kathy Merner, Roxanne Overholt, Sonya Shantz, Heather Westlake, and Beth Sweeny. Absent at the dress rehearsal was Kathy Schenk. JUNIOR OUVERS — boys 5 to 7 from the junior beginners and stroking groups of the Zurich -Grand Bend figure skating club skated to the music of Oliver, at the club's carnival, Sunday. Included are: Jeremy Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Jamie Baker, Chris Gingerich, Cory Gingerich, Andrew Grainger, Michael Jones, Patrick Regier, Kristen Shenk and Jason Wassman. DANCING SCARECROWS --- surrounding Martha Klopp as the wicked witch, are scarecrows Terri Farquar, Angela Fisher, Christa Keller, Colleen Keller, Kim Redick and Kathy Schenk. The girls skated to music from the Wizard of Oz in the Zurich -Grand Bend Skating club's carnival held Sunday in Zurich. Jennifer Overholt, Wendy Overholt Dana Regier, Kim Scotchmer, Sandra Steckle, and Jayne Westlake. Dance of the Scarecrows, inspired by the Wizard of Oz, featured junior dance 1 and novice 11 members Terri Farquar, Angela Fisher, Chreista Keller, Colleen Keller, Kim Redick, and Kathy Schenk. The wicked witch was Martha Klopp, and skating to "Merry Old Land of Oz' *as- Donna-Gingerlel*» - Boys from the junior beginners and stroking groups were: Jeremy Ander- son, Matthew Anderson, Jamie Baker, Chris Gingerich, Cory Gingerich, Andrew Grainger, Michael Jones, Patrick Regier, Kristen Schenk, Jason Wassman. The boys skated to the music of Oliver. The girls of junior novice 1. group skated to the music of Annie. They were: Julie Decker, AimeeCelinas, Lori Harburn, Chrystal Jones, Kellie Mommersteeg, Lisa Overholt, Chirstine Rose, and Jennifer Taylor. Senior coaches Sandra Datars and Missy San- dilands, and junior coaches Debbie Bedard, Cathy Brenner, Elizabeth Datars, -Kerry Lynn Deitz, and Tracy Erb, as well as the club pros, each gave an individual per- formance. Each was given a tribute by junior members. Many of the intermediate and senior groups (coaches) appeared several times in the show. Anissa Gurchin gave a solo performance as a guest skater. Anissa was a winner at the Canadian Games in Brandon Manitoba. The Club's carnival com- mittee were: Beth McGee, chairman; Carol Dietz, chief advisor; Linda Hen- drick, costumes; Laura Overholt, music; Jerry. Rader, Brian Decker and Doug Klopp handle d the stage settings; Alma Westlake, lighting; Elaine Dratars, ice captain; Donna Klopp, ticket sales; Carmel Sweeney, advertising; and Pam Scotchmer for the front cover design (programs). The program thanked -all ,the friends and relatives of the club members, and all those who helped to put the show together. Part of the show was a tribute to Zurich's 125th birthday.
