The three day broomball
tournament wound to a close
at the Bayfield Arena on
Sunday afternoon, with
llelmore being crowned the
Men's Champs and Parr
Line being crowned Ladies

entered the event and played
through thirty games to
decide the winners.
In the 'A' Division final,
Belmore defeated the
Hayfield
by
Bad Sturgeon
Seaforth Jr. Farmers by a
narrow 3-2 margin. The
noisy and near capacity
crowd watched Belmore
open up a 2-0 lead in the first
period on goals by Robin
Wilie and Dennis Sheaus.
Seaforth opened the scoring
in the second and final
period on a goal by Dick
Robinson. Belmore con-
tinued to press and carry the
play with Peter Douglas fin-
ding the range. Seaforth
scored late in the period
with Robinson picking up his
second of the game. With a
minute to play, the Jr.
Farmers lifted their goalie
in favour of an extra at-
tacker but couldn't get the
tieing marker.
Belmore received $250 in
trophies and prize money.
As runners-up; Seaforth
received 1150 in cash.
In the Ladies Division 'A'
Final, the only local team
entered, Parr Line, took a 1-
0 win over the Chiselhurst
squad. The only scoring play
of the game came in the first
period, a goal by Glenda

Bayfield cub news
Fourteen members of the
Bayfield Scout Troop and
twelve members of the
Bayfield Cub Pack enjoyed a
toboggan party on Saturday,
Jan. 17, at Tom Rathwell's
hill near Varna. The boys
were accompanied by
leaders, Dale Leppington,
Jerry Johnston and Dave
Roy.
Tom Rathwell had a
surprise for the youngsters
as he had his horse team
decked out in full regalia and
took them all for a sleigh
ride. The team looked pretty
good and the boys seemed to
be more interested in the
horses and sleigh than the
tobogganing on the hill.
All the members of the
Scouts and Cubs wish to
thank Tom Rathwell for an
enjoyable and exciting day
on his farm.
Bayfield euchre club results
The Bayfield Euchre Club
met on Wednesday, Jan. 21
with eight tables of play.
Ladies high was Jess
Blair, Ladies Low was Grace
Duggan, Men's High was
Bob Turner and Men's Low
was Frank McClinchey.
Most lone hands went to
Susie Pollock.
The Euchre Club wishes to
thank the afternoon bridge
club for the donation of
several packs of new playing
cards. The next meeting is
on Feb. 4, and everyone is
walcome.
Round and about the village
I don't know whether Joe
Brandon has another one of
his famous spring sides on up
at the Pro Hardware, but in
any event one driver was in
such a hurry to enter the
store on Friday night, the he
or she drove smack dab into
the little winter enclosure on
the front of the store,
breaking the plywood and
rendering the door useless.
Mr. and Mrs. Gil Latimer
got their stove cleaned out
and headed to Toronto for
the weekend to visit with
friends and relatives and
take in the Annual Car Show.
While Gil claims he was
going to the car show to see
the new cars and such, Helen
avers that the only reason he
goes is to see the "Playgirls"
that are on display.
Greg and Emmily Neilsen
got over their scare from the
winter storm that struck
here after New Years Day,
blocking them into their
lakefront cottage for days
and days without food and
drink. They returned last
weekend for another visit.
Bob and Lois Davidson,
Windsor, almost made it to
Bayfield on Saturday for a
weekend visit with their ron-
in -law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Bud Sturgeon, and their
friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Pounder, but, they were
repelled at Tilbury by a
heavy covering of ground fog
on the 401 which cut vision to
nil at times and showed no
signs of lifting.
The fire alarm rang out in
the village at 4:10 p.m. on
Wednesday afternoon, but it
proved to be nothing other
than a false alarm set off by
the damp weather or
something like that.
At the arena this week
The Oldtimers clobbered
the Rink Mice by an 11-5
score on Saturday night at
the Bayfield Arena as they
used their superior speed
and accurate shooting skills
to advantage. The game
marked the return of league
veteran Larouche who
consistently set up his for-
ward line of Stormin Nor -
min, Romping Rhea and Big
Barb for numerous goals.
Too numerous to mention.
The Mice relied on their
number one line of Blondie,
Valerie the Vulture and
Windy Wendy but due to
many near misses around
the net, they were ineffective
for the most part.
LCW
meets
The Lutheran Church
Women met January 13, in
the Church rooms, with
Pastor Jack and 20 members
attending.
"Samaritan Women, Past
and Present: A look at
Prejudice" was the topic
chosen by • the committee.
The members in charge
were Doris Deichert,
Margaret Deichert, Anne
Flaxbard and Elsie Doerr,
with Margaret acting as
leader.
After the program was
introduced by Doris,
Margaret presented a fitting
devotional poem. Doris then
read from the Scripture, the
story from John 4, of Jesus at
the well with the Samaritan
Women.
During the course of 'the
evening, prejudice, was
defined as, "being down on
something, you are not up
on".
Prejudice was directed at
the Samaritan women in a
dialogue between Anne and
Elsie. This led to an active
and interesting discussion of
prejudice as applied to
culture, congregations, and
our own personal prejudices.
A hymn, "In Christ there is
no East or West" was sung,
accompanied by Gertie
Fleischauer at the piano.
In closing Margaret led in
the offertory prayer and
scriptures. She also read an
appropriate poem, "This
Moment".
The business meeting was
chaired by the president
Doris Deichert.
The annual workathon,
will again be sponsored by
the L.C.W., in the church
rooms, on Tuesday February
10, beginning after 9 a.m. A
pot luck dinner will be
served for the evening meal.
