Minor hockey teams win
The Zurich Buckeyes
maintained their winning
formthis past week with
victories over the Centralia
College of Agricultural
Technology Saints and the
Forest Boyds.
On Monday the . Buckeyes
edged the Saints 6-5 while on

Sunday they scored a
decisive 8-3 victory over
Forest.
Zurich's next game is the
Sunday morning encounter
against the same Forest
team. After'the game there
will be a Grey Cup party in
the auditorium.
Despite a late -game rally
the Centralia College of
Agricultural Technology
Saints were edged by the
Zurich Buckeyes in a game
played Monday at the
Stephen township arena.
Leading the scoring
parade for the college
Monday were Ken Vanos and
Randy Johnston who scored
a pair of goals for the
college.
The Saints hit the
scoresheet first with a goal
at 12:44 by Vanos from Lloyd
Holdbrook.
Zurich tied the game six
minutes later as Al Wilbee
fired a shot past CCAT goalie
Ian Finnie.
Less than a minute later
the Buckeyes took the lead
for the first time in the game
thanks to a goal by Kim
McKinnon. Pat Bedard
added the assist.
In the second period
Zurich took a two goal lead
as the result of a score by
Gerald Weido with helpfrom
Kim McKinnon.
CCAT tied the game at
three -all as Johnston and
Vanos connected at 4:54 and
the 49 second mark. Picking
up the assists were Jim
Coffey, Brian Shaw and Tim
Breedon.
The third period saw the
Buckeyes out -score the
Saints 3-2 to secure the win.
Zurich struck early in the
period as defenceman Mike
Clarke took a pass from Kim
McKinnon and broke in on
Finnie who couldn't handle
Clarke's shot. Less than five
minutes later Ron Rader
scored for the Buckeyes with
help from Marvin Merner.
The game winning goal
came from the stick of Pat
Bedard at the 14:16 mark.
Kim McKinnon and Clarke
had the assists.
Two minutes later the
Saints mounted a comeback
with Holdbrook hitting the
score sheet following passes
from Vanos and Dave
McFadden.
With only 34 seconds
remaining to be played
Johnston scored his second
goal of the game for ag
school but it proved to be too
little, too late. McFadden
and Vanos had the assists.
It was a balanced scoring
attack which lead to the
Buckeyes victory over
Forest as eight players
shared in the scoring.
Zurich out -scored the
Boyds 3-1 in the first period
on goals by Merner, Jeff
O'Brien and Steve Bedour.
Ron Rader, Wilbee and Glen
Nicholson had the assists.
Zurich added to their total
•
in the second period on goals
by Pat Bedard, and Clarke.
Clarke had the assist .on the
Bedard goal,
The final period saw
Zurich pick up another two
goals thanks to the efforts of
Kim McKinnon, Gerald
Weido and Rader. Adding
the assists were Clarke,
Bedour, Pat Bedard, Kim
McKinnon and Greg Kirk.
A total of 42 penalities
were recorded by
scorekeepers Doug
Turkheim, Paul Morrison
and Joe Kenda.
Minor hockey begins
The Zurich minor hockey
program has begun another
year of operation with Zurich
teams having a good day at
Huron Park on Saturday.
The Bantams took a 4-1
victory, the Atoms clobbered
their opposition 10-0 and the
Pee wees won • 5-1. The only
' Zurich team to suffer a
defeat were the Midgets who
lost a 3-0 game.
On Wednesday the Ban-
tams tied Hensall 3-3 and on
Monday lost to Blyth 5-3. The
Pee wees defeated Blyth 4-2.
Sherwoods win two
The Hensall Sherwoods
picked up a pair of wins this
week in South Huron Hockey
League action this week with
victories over Parkhill and
Goderich.
On Sunday in Parkhill, the
Sherwoods • edged the
Merchants 5-4 with Rick
Ingram scoring two goals.
The other Hensall goals -
were scored by Dwight
Consitt, Dave Kinsman - and
Jim Ferguson.
Thursday, Hensall out-
scored the Flyers from
Goderich 10-6 to take the win.
Leading the way for
Hensall was Jamie Caldwell
with three goals. Consitt and
Steve Knight contributed two
scores each.
Picking up the other
Sherwood's goals were Terry
Caldwell, Ingram and Garry
Koehler.
Dashwood bail banquet
Sunday afternoon drew the
Dashwood Minor Ball Club
season to a close with . the
team member's parents and
coaches gathering at the
Dashwood Community Cen-
tre. Everyone enjoyed a
dinner and afterwards the
awards were handed out as
follows:
Bantams: most valuable,
Tony Smith; most
sportsmanlike, Dwayne
Laporte; and- most im-
proved, Dan Dittmer.
Coaches were Bob Hayter,
Bill Smith and. Irvin Ford.
Pee Wees: most valuable,
Doug Shade; mos'
sportsmanlike, Darcy Mar-
tin and most improved,
Buddy Richardson. Coaches
were Bill and Jack Shade.
Tykes: most valuable,
John Denomme; most
sportsmanlike, Bill
Vanderworp; and most im-
proved, Bruce Dietrich.
The girls softball team
was formed and organized
this year 'by Anne Dittmer,
Nancy Rad r and Bernice
Boogeman.
Award winners were:
most valuable, Lori Anne
Boogeman; most
sportsmanlike, Michelle
Vanderworp; and most im-
proved, Cathy Shade. The
new fall executive is presi-
dent, Ken • Genttner; vice-
president, Joe Zimmer;
secretary, Anne Dittmer;
and treasurer,Gloria Hayter.
