After defeating the Varna Agricos in semi-final play last week, the Bayfield Babes were matched against the Stanley Stars for the final series. Last year the same two teams met in the finals as well, with the series going down to the fifth game to decide a winner. As it turned out, the stars won that game. In regular season play this year, the Stars were also the winners in all three games, 15-5, 6-4 and 7-5. Wednesday night at the Varna diamond the Babes came to play ball, and turned in a superb effort. downing -Stanley 6-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the best -of -five showdown. A consistent barrage of hits off the bats of Crystal Taylor, Patti Rau and Nora West and another Joyce Mcllwaip homerun, com- bined with a tough defence, gave the Babes a 6-0 lead through the last half inning when they allowed the singleton. Future games were scheduled for Monday and Wednesday night at the Varna diamond. Round and about the Village Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hulley spent the weekend at their Howard Street cottage, reporting a rough first week in school back home in Paris. Mr'attdMrs. Bob Cluff and family, London, visited their residence in Bayfield on the weekend. Back in July we reported finding the missing boat `Bayfield' docked in the harbour at Port Stanley. Recently we heard that the captain andcrew receivtftl copy of the newspaper we had forwarded to them. The crew were excited about bringing the Bayfield into Bayfield harbour and asked if they would make history when they came. We couldn't say whether they'd make history, but that they would have a good time while here. So look for a visit from the Bayfield in the future. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Craig spent the weekend in Blyth at the steam threshers reunion held there.
