Texas visitor Ilene Pothof of Longview Texas is presently visiting with relatives in town, her mother -Mrs. Mary Gerber at the Maplewoods apts. A sister, Mabel Riley and twin - sister, Irene Clausius. Also her daughter and son4n-law, Gwen and Pat O'Rourke of pear Dashwood who also just had a little baby girl on Monday September 1st at St. Joseph's hospital in London. Splendid performance A splendid performance of the musical production of "Annie Get Your Gun", at the Huron Country playhouse this past week, was really enjoyed by a lot of Zurich people. Weary appointed to post By CATH WOODEN A Huron County secondary school teacher, Shirley Weary, of Goderich, will be filling a new post this year as Federation Officer for her fellow high school teachers. Weary will be teaching Math and Consumer's Education every other day at Seaforth District High School and will' be spending the rest of her time promoting better relations between the Huron County Board of Education and secondary school teachers. "I guess you could say I'll be a trouble-shooter before the trouble starts," said Weary of her job which en- tails providing materials for teacher committees and do- ing research for individual teachers who may not have time to do it themselves. She will also be attending board meetings ag a spec- tator. This is the first year the Huron district of the Ontario Secondary School Teacher's Federation (OSSTF) has hired an officer. though a number of other districts have them. Her salary as a Federation Officer will be paid from OSSTF dues from this district. Weary, who will be "operating out of her basement," was a teacher representative during the 1978 strike. +++ The total enrollment in Huron County schools on the first day of school was 11,- 004. This is down 412 students from last year. The difference is seen mainly in the secondary schools, where 4,153 students registered as com- pared to 4,446 last year. +++ It looks like Latin 350 won't be offered at South Huron District High School in Exeter this year, norwill English 551 be taught at Cen- tral Huron in Clinton. The two subjects were dropped because of low enrollment; however, students may still have a chance to pick up those credits this year: The courses will be offered at night school if enough students (10) ask for it. +++ Summer school principal Don Tremeer reported a successful summer to the Huron County Board of Education at its regular September 2 meeting. Tremeer stated that the school was made "More in- teresting and different" because of the English as a Second Language course. Thirty-two Indo-Chinese, ranging from six years of age to their mid -forties began to learn English. +++ The four Grade 13 Huron County students with the highest aggregates were an- nounced by director of Education D.J. Cochrane at the board's September meeting. Winning the auto was Allen Brokenshire of Zurich. While Lions president Kevin McKinnon and Brokenshire look on, Nathalie and Jodi Brokenshire try the auto out for size. Band Members Unite Agoodtimewashadbyall as Elroy Desjardine held a musical jam -session on Sunday for old and new players of his band and friendstwhich came to about 60 people. There were 14 musicians taking turns playing the instruments for dancing and- listening which was held at Murray Harburn's place on the Blue Water. Personals Mrs. Mary Smith of Belle - River Ontario and Mrs. Mary Hogan of London were recent visitors with Mrs. Marcella Dietrich. Also Mrs. Irene McCann, Grand Bend visited with her mother, last week. ,The second barbecue birthday party for this month was held at the cot- tage of Mozart and Marie Gelinas on Sunday for four members of the family. Those celebrating were Kevin Sweeney, George Harvey, Carmel Sweeney, and little Brian Gelinas. Congratulations to Rick and Patti Bedard (nee Dann) who were married at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Saturday with a big reception at the Community Centre in Hensall. Congratulations to Harold and Doreen Dietrich who celebrated their 24th wed- ding anniversary on Sunday with a lovely family dinner in Thedford at the Fireside Inn, along with his mother Mrs.Marcella Dietrich. Mrs. Donna Thornton and family moved into the for- mer home of Ken McCarter's on Goshen Street south over the weekend. Best wishes for a speedy recovery is extended to Verda Baechler who is a patient in St. Joseph's hospital. Neil and Helen Walker are happy to have a new little grand -daughter (Jenette) who was born on August: 28. She is the first, child for Richard and Mary Walker of Huron Park. Miss Cheryl ' Denomme, _Mary -Ann Regier, Mary Mitchell, Patty and Audrey Regier all motored to Cedar Point, Ohio for three days last week and enjoyed the rides at the large amusement park. Jim and Madeline Cook and 2 boys of Burlington spent Labor Day weekend with her parents, Percy and Marie Bedard Sr. and at- tended the wedding of their cousin. Sister Cathy Regier from British Columbia recently spent two weeks with her parents, George and Ethel Regier, also attended summer courses in London, and has now returned to BC and teaching school. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Harwick and friend Maxine of Adrian Michigan visited last Tuesday afternoon with friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Sweeney and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Johnston. Bob and Linda Hendrick and two children , returned home last Thursday from a wonderful three week trip to Calgary visiting with her sister, and family, Janet, Richard and Laura .
