Over the weekend the
Tavern -Boys from Zurich
captured the first annual
Clinton recreational fastball
tournament.
There were two other
teams from the Zurich
league inolved in the tour-
ney, the D.J.'s and the
Sunsets. Both of these teams
gave good performances all
weekend with the Sunsets
winners - the Zurich
Dominion Tavern.
Brian Hodgins of the
Tavern crew lead them in
their championship bid as he
allowed only three earned
runs in four games and was
named the tournament Most
Valuable Player.
In their first game the
Dominion Tavern defeated
Lobb's Casey's of Clinton 7-0
in five innings, with hits

with Marlene and Tony Bedard
winning their first against
Goderich township by a wide
margin and losing a heart-
. breaker in the second game
4-3 in 9 innings to the Clinton
Bluebirds.
The D.J.'s fared better as
they won their first 2 games
by lospsided scores against
Ex -Cello from Clinton and
the Teachers also of Clinton.
In their third match they lost
5-1 to the eventual tourney
being recorded by Jeff
O'Brien, Ken Fenwick,
Brian Hodgins.
Next in line came the
Villagers from Seaforth who
were defeated 8-2 by the
tavern team. Leading the
way for Zurich were Rick
Schilbe, Kim McKinnon,
Wayne Meidinger, Norm
Koehler and Brian Hodgins
with one hit each and Jeff
O'Brien with two.

In their third game of the
tournament the Tavern boys
defeated the D.J.'s of Zurich
5-1 with it one of thebetter
games of the tourney.
Leading the way for the
winners was Kim McKinnon
with a double and single and
Pat Bedard, Rick Schilbe,
Jeff O'Brien, Randy
McKinnon with one hit
apiece.
The D.J.'s were rests icted
to three hits by hurler Brian
Hodgins as he recorded 10
strikeouts. Ken Clarke had
two singles and Paul
Morrison one.
In the 'A' Championship
final the Champions gained
sweet revenge as they beat
their old enemies the
Bluebirds of Clinton 13-0 in
five innings. The win was a
reversal of last year for in
the Zurich tournament the
Bluebirds defeated the
Dominion Tavern 1-0 in the
'A' semi-final. The Bluebirds
eventually won the Cham-
pionship.In the final at
Clinton, Hodgins limited the
Birds to just two hits and had
eight strikeouts. The Zurich
boys opened up a 9-0 lead
after one inning and never
looked back.
Leading the way of-
fensively, was Ken Fenwick
as he stroked three straight
singles, next in line was
Richard Schilbe, Pat
Bedard, Kevin McKinnon
and Wayne Meidinger with
one hit apiece including a,
double by Meidinger.
The hotel boys were
speedy on the basepaths as
they recorded seven stolen
bases and were issued eight
base on balls.
For their efforts the Zurich
Dominion Tavern brought
home the $200.00 first prize
money, a giaht trophy and
each member of ..the team
was presented with a 'gold
medallion which read
"Clinton Fastball Champs
1980."
For his efforts, M.V.P.
Brian Hodgins was
presented with a silver cup
for being the top player in
the touritament.
Sunsets edge Patz
On Wednesday night
singles by Don .Beauchamp
and Kevin Geoffrey plus a
two run double by' Dave
Stark in the sixth inning gave
the Sunsets a 2-1 victory over
the Patz boys in Zurich rec
fastball league action.
The lone Patz run came on
a home run in the first inning
by Mike Masse.
The Pontiacs continued to
have a fine season as they
edged the D.J.'s 6-5.
A walk to Don O'Brien in
the eighth inning secured the
victory for the league
leaders with O'Brien coming
in following singles to Bob
Brown, Bob Merner and Bob
Johnston.
On Monday the team with
the beer mug on their chests
walloped the Patz Boys 24-7.
The tavern ds ha 22.hits
off of the offerings of Patz
hurlers Al Scott, Isidore
Laporte and Dave Taylor
The Patz team had 12 hits off
of winning pitcher - Kevin
McKinnon.
The D.J.'s team took
revenge Monday night by
gaining a 134 win over the
Pontiacs. According to
reports the Pontiacs made a
FEW errors.
Pee weer win
In the past week the Dash-
wood Pee Wee hardball team
chalked up two well
deserved. victories. The first
over Seaforth 15-1, and the
second over Wingham 9-5.
This was Winghams first loss
of the season. Nextgames
are July 1 at 6:30 - Clinton at
