The Junior Boy's Fastball team, the Bobcats, lost to Colbourne Township 16-8 in an exhibition game at Clan Gregor Park on Wednesday night. All the above are from Brantford and the occasion was a school party for the teachers from. Fairview Pulic School where Edna is the principal. Guests were impressed with the frien- dliness of the Bayfield people, the shops and the scenery. While here a few polar bears tried swimming in the 'cold' lake and a few suffered minor injuries while playing softball in Clan Gregor Park, but mostly they (all) enjoyed it im- mensely with a few staying over until Sunday. Binnie and Elaine Sturgeon and family of Orangeville arrived on Friday to spend a couple weeks at their house Louisa Street residence. ' Stu and Jerry Sturgeon of Prestonand Hespeler spent the weekendat their village home on Anne street. __ Ron and Joyce Bert, Kitchener, had as guests at their Bayfield residence this weekend, ,daughter Diane from St. Catharines, Dr. and: Mrs. R.E. Smale from Midland - and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Keys from Hensall. Firemen called The Bayfield Fire Department wete called to the North side of the river at 2 p.m. on •Sunday afternoon to extinguish a fire inside a late. model station wagon. The - car suffered extensive damage to the interior. The fishing took a turn for the worse on the weekend as the perch which had been biting well all week suddenly disappeared. Take heart because if the weather stays good, all signs point -to a great opening day for the start of the bass fishing season on Saturday. Clinton racing ' tostart Dave and Carol Pelton and family of Paris, visited with Mr. and Mrs. G. Hulley at their Sandcastle on Sunday. Local carpenter, Harry Carpenter, was last seen racing his blue truck up and down the streets of Bayfield on Sunday morning looking for a calf. The Rip -tear Rally headed into its third consecutive weekend, as local rodders again out foxed the police, squealing tires well on into the wee hours of the mor- ning. Knox welcomes summer congregation On Wednesday, the Stratford -Huron Presbytery._. met at Knox Presbyterian Church 'in Bayfield. Bill Armstrong, a delegate to the recent General Assembly, gave a balanced and thoughtful report on its proceedings and the issues involved- in the 'Week long marathon of meetings. Ron and Linda Harris (summer ministers) led devotions. Ron speaking on Pride as the 'Pastor's Plunge', and Linda playing harp and guitar. The women of Knox prepared a scrumptious buffet lunch for The Clinton Kinsmen Raceway will be starting its llth season on- June 29, and will be- racing every Sunday afternoon" until September 28, with post time at 1:30 each day. Included in the regular 10 races each day, will be a number of features at the track, which bills itself as the Family Track because of the playground, picnic grounds and brand new olympic-sized pool nearby. Four Ontario Sired Stake Races will be staged for purses totalling nearly ;40,000 incl(ding the two- year-old colt pace on July 27, and the three-year-old filly trot on September 7. Other highlights of the meet include a driver's -competition on July 13, a leg of the Ontario ' Harness• Horseman's Association Stake on August 3, the Medie' Elliott Memorial Trot on August 31, and the final leg of the Clintons-Goderich pacing series on September 14. Also new this year at Clinton is racing secretary Dan Donnelly, a 19 year old Goderich native who has had a life-long love affair with harness horses. Dan, who was granted his licence last year; will also handle the reins of the secretary's Job for the Goderich Raceway, which races every Thursday night during July and August. the Presbytery in the basement of the church. . "God is in the business of making people like Jesus Christ by 'his life- giving spirit and powerful Word," states Ron. He continued, "Because of this we anticipate tremendous growth here this summer. This is what we looked at last Sunday under the 'Garden' theme: God will make righteousness and praise spring through his Garden, the Church (Isaiah 61)" A men's prayer meeting has already sprouted. Knox looks forward to fruitfull opportunities. All are welcome to worship and learn with us, the ser- mon for the 29th will be entitled "Garbage in, gar- bage out" on Christian meditation. - , Pet people hold regular • meeting By BARRY CLEAVE The regular meeting of the Huron County Poultry, Pigeon aned Pet Stock Association was held on Tuesday with twelve members and two visitors present. In the absence of President Jerome Sweeney, Vice - President Orville Shewfelt opened the, meeting. The secretary as a delegate to the annual meeting of . the Ontario Poultry Confederation in Guelph on June 7th, reported on business conducted at the meeting and answered questions pertaining to the day's events. Hank Wim- menhove reported that he bad not been able to locate a copier ` and it was decided that Barry Cleave and Hugo Vermeesch were to look into obtaining a copier in Goderich. Secretary Daniel read correspondence pertaining to the new judges exam rules for the A.B.A. It was an- nounced that the Club picnic and show is still go for Sunday, July 13th at Cliff Peppers. Cliff was not able to -be at the meeting as he is recuperating from a recent operation. We all wish him a speedy recovery. Our August meeting night was changed to Thursday evening the 21st. There will be no - July meeting. Requests were made for the Club cages and cooping facilities by George Tieman for Zurich Fair, by Barry Cleave for Bayfield Fair and by Newt Cuyler for the Kincardine Fair. These requests were granted. The Secretary announced that the price of donuts were getting too high for our donations so after a discussion it was decided to try something different. The attendance draw was won by George Tiernan - and re - donated to the lunch fund. A discussion developed on sponsoring a 4-H poultry club in Huron County and Secretary Daniel was asked to send a letter of inquiry to the O.M.A.F. office. Adjourment was moved by Cloyne Thuel.
