format/of Zurich fair
As the month of July ap-
• proaches plans all set for
the 116th annuar7Airich fair
to be held July 18, 19 and 20.

Thiel said several changes to
the format of the fair have
been made. -
The evervopular wrist-
- wrestling format has been
changed to allow only area)
residents to participate. He
said several fairgoers had
indicated itt lwevious years
that they 'would ,like to
compete against competitors
of their own skill level.
For** many youngsters
who attend the fair, a draw

radios to be won by the
names drawn of the first boy
and girl.
For those who enjoy bingo,
the Zurich -Grand Bend
figure skating club will be
holding the fast -paced game
Saturday at 4 p.m.
The fair ' off to its
traditional start Friday
evening with the talent show
and the crowning of the
queen. Last year's •queen
was Janice Webster of
Varna.

Stanley taxes up
Taxpayers in Stanley
township will see their taxes
go up by about 20 mills in a
budget approved by council.
The 1980 residential public
mill rate jumps from 152.85
to 171.17 while supporters of
the separate school system
will see their mill rate go
from 155.35 to 175.26 mills.
Owners of commercial
properties who support the
public system will pay taxes
based on a mill rate of 194.85
while the rate for separate
supporters goes to 193.08
from 176.90 s.
The following is a break-
down, of the 1980 tax
schedule: general township
residential 47.29 commercial
township 55.64; county of
Huron 23.96; board of
education residential
secondary 47.58; education
commercial secondary
52.87; elementary separate
residential 56.43 and com-
mercial elementary
separate 66.39.
The township's
assessment now stands at

Man in custody
after shooting
A Grand Bend man is
in police custody following
the fatal shooting of his
mother, early Monday af-
ternoon.
Charles Harold Klopp, 32,
was charged with first
degree murder of Janet
Paterson Klopp and was
remanded in custody
Tuesday in Sarnia for the
purposes of treatment at the
Centre for the Criminally
Insane at Penatanguishene
for a 60 day period.
Police said Mrs. Klopp
died as the results of shots to
the head and chest which
took place at her residence in
Grand. Bend around 1:30
P.m.
The investigation of the
murder is being conducted
by Provincial C9nstable
