by Kenneth Hoar and Helen
Herbert.. The ceremony of
lighting the second candle in
the advent wreath was per-
formed by the rector.
The Rev. Derrick spoke to
the children on preparing
themselves for the coming of
Jesus and enlarged on his ser-
mon from Mark t: 1-8 on the
two main symbols which are
exploring the consequencces
of them, in our lives and
secondly knowing God.
Women meet
Unit 1 of Granton UCW met
at the home of their president,
Mrs. Doreen McRobert on
December 6. Everyone con-
tributed to the program.
There were readings, pertain-
ing to Christmas, a humorous
skit and a carol sing. A short
business meeting was held
and plans were discussed in
connection with the general
UCW meeting on December
11.

The United Church Women
held their Christmas meeting
at the home of Iva Lagerwerf,
December 5.
Anna Eagleson was in
charge of the Worship using
the Christmas theme and she
was assisted by Doris
Eagleson.
President. Eloise Eagleson
gave a reading on how we
should welcome children at
our church services. She read
the new slate of officers for
1985.
A donation of $100 was sent
to the Salvation Army.
Several members visited the
birthday bank and 23
members answered the roll
call. The treasurer's report
was given by Jean Isaac and
minutes were read by Ruby
Isaac.
White Gifts
December 2, White Gift
Sunday was observed. The
children of the Sunday School
sang two numbers. Envelopes
of money were collected for
Ethiopia.
Sunday, December 9, Rev.
Peebles spoke on "Christians
and the Community".
Gerald Smith of London
visited a day recently with
Clarence and Geraldine
Stone.
Shelley and Michael Rock
have been visiting their
grandparents Fred and Isabel
Bullock.
At this meeting, all
members are asked to bring
canned goods to be donated to
the Salvation Army for their
Christmas cheer project.
The Rev. Pierce closed the
meeting with the benediction,
grace was sung and everyone
sat down to a traditional
Christmas dinner, turkey and
all the trimmings, served by
the hostess.
Unit 3 held their Christmas
meeting in the form of a pot
luck dinner on December 5 at
noon, at the home of April
Bryan. After a bountiful and
delicious mesal, Janey Nixon
opened the meeting with a
Christmas
contributes' program
with seasonal readings, some
warm and moving and some
humorous.
A rhythm band and
distribution of Christmas
wishes followed. The meeting
closed with the singing of
carols.
Unit 5 meeting was held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Times -Advocate, December 12,
Wm. Joges, December 8.
Members took their husband
or a friend. A smorgasboard
pot luck dinner was enjoyed
and gift exchange followed.
A short business meeting
was held, followed by the en-
joyment of playing cards and
games. Mrs. Malcolm Spence
offered a vote of thanks to the
host and hostess for their
hospitality.
At the close of the meeting,
everyone returned safely to
their homes after braving a
blustery snow storm.
