At Centralia
UCW entertains men

The UCW of the United
Church met Thursday even-
ing for their Christmas
meeting. We were entertain-
ing husbands and friends.
Everyone enjoyed a lovely
Christmas dinner convened
by Margaret Cook and Olive
Essery assisted by Group 1.
Iva Blair welcoined
everyone and presided for a
short business meeting. Iva
read a Christmas poem. It
was decided to send $25. to
Womens Community House.
Everyone is invited to Zion
United Church for a family
night January 4 at 8 p.m. Iva
expressed her thanks for all
the help she and Mildred Greb
received through the year.
The senior citizens
Christmas dinner is to be held
December 17 at noon. June
Essery expressed thanks on
behalf of everyone to Iva and
Mildred for their wonderful
leadership.
Glena Tripp and Lois
Wilson were in charge of a
beautiful Christmas program
of carols, stories and prayers
assisted by Group two.
Glena Tripp and Doug Gill
sang a duet with Edith Gill at
the piano. This was enjoyed
so much by all.
Sam Skinner thanked the
ladies for the most enjoyable
evening of Friendship on
behalf of the men and guests.
At Centralia United Church
Saturday evening, Rev.
Crowe showed pictures of ca-
nyons of colours, Ca-
nyonlands and Zion National
Parks plus a festival of
Wildflowers.
These pictures were just
breathtaking. Proceeds will
be donated to African Famine
Relief.
The regular Monday even-
ing euchre party was held in
the community hall convened
by Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Oesch
and Mr. and Mrs. Willert.
Prizes went to: high scores,
Charlotte Barker, Earl
Morgan; lone hands, Viola
Atkinson, Ron Fahner; low
score Velma Harvey, Ed
Armstrong.
The next euchre is
December 17 and will be con-
vened by Ed and Kay
Armstrong.
Plan to attend the
Christmas program at Faith
Tabernacle on December 23
at 7 p.m. Everybody is
welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Hirtzel and Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Hicks attended a ban-
quet at Dashwood, Saturday
evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Paff,
Ailsa Craig and Tom and
Mary Kooy were Sunday
visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Clayton Kooy of Huron Park.
Bonnie spent the weekend
with her friend Miss Karen
Hunter, Elimville.

The Christmas meeting of
the United Church Women
was held Monday evening
with 29 ladies present. Mrs.
Barry E. Miller introduced
Mrs. Helen Miller of
Dashwood who has worked at
Country Flowers for seven
years.
She showed how to make
bows and also a table center-
piece which was really nice.
Names were drawn, Mrs.
Ross Ballantyne and Mrs.
William Roweliffe won the
bows and Mrs. Reg Hodgert
won the centerpiece. Mrs.
Barry Miller thanked her and
presented Helen with a gift.
Mrs. David Passmore com-
menced the worship service
with a poem "The Guest at
the End" followed with
prayer by Mrs. Miller. Mrs.
Miller lit the first candle
which represented "The
Spirit of Christmas" and she
gave a meditation. Mrs. Jack
Hodgert ht the second and
third candles which
represented "I Am Hope"
and "I Am Faith" with a
meditation for each one.
Mrs. Mary Connolly lit the
fourth and fifth candles which
represented "I Am
Brotherhood" and "I Am
Peace" with a meditation for
each one. Mrs. David
Passmore lit sixth and
seventh candles which
represented "I Am Love" and
I Am Joy" with a meditation
for each.
Mrs. Connolly and Mrs.
Miller received the offering
with prayer by Mrs. Hodgert.
Members sang several
Christmas carols. Mrs.
Passmore closed with prayer
which brought a very im-
pressive Christmas worship
service to a close.
Mrs. Lee Webber opened
the business part of the
meeting with a poem
"Christmas". The roll call
was answered by each
member bringing something
for the Christmas Bureau.

Minutes and Treasurer's
reports were received.
Mrs. Donna Greb president
of South Huron Division of the
United Church spoke a few
words and brought greetings
from Presbytery. She closed
with a Christmas Prayer. It
was moved that we send $loo
to the starving in Ethiopia. "
Secret Pal Gifts were then
distributed, and names were
handed out for next year. A
delicious lunch was then par-
taken of with Group C under
the leadership of Mrs. David
Passmore and Mrs. Barry E.
Miller. The hostess for the
evening was Mrs. John Pym.

Sunday School awards
at Saintsbury church

Rev. Peter Derrick was in
charge of service at St.
Patrick's 11:30 a.m. service.
The church was beautifully
decorated for Christmas. Don
Cunningham read the first
lesson and Margaret Carroll
the second lesson.
Rev. Derrick continued his
sermons on baptism. Ron
Cunningham and Robert Gee
took up the offering.
Carolin Gee lit the first Ad-
vent candle and Scottie Jef-
frey lit the second. Following
the shortened service the con-
gregation were entertained
by the Sunday School pupils to
a Christmas pageant, number
on the piano by Lisa and Julie
Carroll and readings by
several members of the S.S.
Ryan Carroll gave the
welcome. All joined in a few
Christmas songs and Santa
appeared with gifts for all the
children.
Rev. Derrick presented
four prizes for the most
perfect attendance to Paul
and Tyler Bedell and Lisa and
Julie Carroll. The men quick-
ly put up tables and all sat
down to a hot pot luck dinner
provided by the ladies.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey
Young and Richard were Fri-
day evening dinner guests
with their grandmother, Mrs.
Mary Davis.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob
MacGillivray were guests
with the manager of the com-
pany that employs Bpb. They
were entertained to dinner

White Gift Service
The Sunday School was in
charge of the White Gift Ser-
vice entitled "Sharing Our
Gifts." The Superintendent
Mrs. David Passmore was the
leader. All the Sunday School
children took part in the very
impressive service. The choir
rendered an anthem accom-
panied by the organist Miss
Agnes Bray.
The Sunday School
Christmas concert will be
held Sunday evening
December 16 at 7:30 p.m.
The Christmas Eve Church
service will be held Monday
evening December 24 at 8
p.m. at Elimville Church.
Both churches are to meet.
The Young People met Sun-
day evening and had a
Christmas Worship service at
Elimville. The Young People
are asked to meet at the
manse on December 16 Sun-
day afternoon at 4 p.m. to go
carol singing.
Personals
We are pleased to report
that little Stacey Snow came
home Wednesday from War
Memorial Hospital London
after having been a patient
there some time. Get well
wishes are extended.
Quite a number of people
from this community attend-
ed the annual Christmas
meeting of the Kirkton Hor-
ticultural Society Tuesday
evening at the Kirkton Com-
munity Centre.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dunlop,
London spent the week -end
with Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Bray.
Miss Barbara Miller,
Toronto spent the week -end at
her home here.
