MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM SCHEUERMANN
Lynn Yvonne Robinson and William Louis Scheuermann
were married, September 29, at the Woodham United
Church with Rev. John Vardy officiating. The bride's
parents are Ross and Marilyn Robinson, RR 1 St. Marys
and the groom's parents are Doug and Jessie Scheuer-
mann, St. Pauls. Cheryl Barber, RR 6 St. Marys was maid
of honour. The bride was also attended by Debbie This-
tle, St. Marys, Donna Chaffe, RR 5 Mitchell, Leanne
Smith, St. Marys, Tracey Cunningham, London, and
flower girl, Coreen Chalmers. Rockwood. Joe Scheuer-
mann, St. Pauls was best man. Guests were ushered
by Dale Robinson, RR 1 St. Marys. Rodger Scheuermann,
St. Pauls, Brent Dundas and Wayne Coulthard, St. Marys
and ringbearer Paul Scheuermann, St. Marys. The
organist was Mrs. Merle Brine and the soloists were
Mrs. Mary Blackler and Ken Blackler. The wedding was
followed with a meal and reception at the Kirkton-
Woodham Community Centre. The couple are living in
St. Marys.
Every year, Bert presented'
a problem; the teachers had
trouble finding a part he could
play, and this year was no ex-
ception. Finally, someone hit
on an idea, "Let Bert play the
innkeeper. I'm sure he can
handle the few words that
have to be said." So, it was
decided, and Bert was
delighted with his part and
practised diligently with the
rest of the children,
labouriouslymemorizing his
six words.
The night of the concert ar-
rived with all its excitement.
Teachers feverishly stuffed
small wriggling bodies into
costumes, straightened in-
numerable halos, found lost
sandals and pinned up last
minute rips. Finally, it was
curtain time.
Everything progressed
beautifully up to the point
Mary and Joseph approached
the inn to ask for lodgings. At
their timid knock, innkeeper
Bert flung open the door, and
bellowed, "There's no room
for you here!". Then, he
slammed the door in their
faces.
They turned, andwere
slowly making their weary
way across the stage when
the inn door flew open again,
and Bert came running after
them with tears in his eyes.
Putting his arms around
them, he cried, "I'm sorry, I
didn't mean it. Come home
with me and sleep in my bed,
tonight."
There wasn't a dry eye in
the audience. Bert gave every
child, teacher and parent
something they would never
forget. He showed them and
gave them the deep seated
love from his open, guileless
heart.
Christmas comes with its
tender memories, present
gladness and high anticipa-
tion. We'll all be giving and
receiving. Some of us will
give too much and receive too
much. And some of us may be
limited in our giving by our
circumstances, but we can all
give thg best gift of all, Bert's
gift, lobe from an open heart.
In many homes, the gift of pa-
tience would be the most ac-;
ceptable gift a family could
receive. In others, the gift of
cheerfulness, cooperation,
kindness, appreciation or
tender heattedness would be
gratefully received. All gifts
of the heart.
Christmas is really our
response to God's greatest
gift of Himself to us. The
shepherds and wisemen
responded by bringing gifts to
the Babe in the manger. How
often, we become so intense
about 'what' we give that we
forget 'why' we give the gift.
Seems to me, we need to
ponder this more.
