Broncos, Waxers off to good sfart, two wins each
The Exeter atom Broncos
lifted their season record to
two and two as they defeated
Lucan 3-1, Sunday.
Jason Heywood opened the
scoring at 8:32 of the first
period on a play set up by
Scott Parsons and Ryan
Lindenfield that proved to be
the only goal of the first
period.
At 6:41 of the second Joel
Smith scored on an end to end
rush to put the Broncos up by
two. A minute later Ryan
Lindenfield gave Exeter a
three -goal lead on a neat
passing play from Jason
Heywood and Mark Lynn.
Richard Phillips was a
standout in the nets for Ex-
eter as he turned away 21
shots including two break
aways.
Jeremy Jemec scored for
Lucan.
A week earlier, the Broncos
downed Parkhill 6-4 and lost
to Strathroy and Goderich by
respective score of 4-2 and 3-2.
In the victory over Parkhill
four early goals held up for
the Broncos as the opposition
came on strong in the second
and third periods.
Jason Heywood scored two
unaswered goals in the early
Exeter success and Joel
Smith and Mark Brintnell
scored in single fashion with
assists provided by Brad
Thompson and Ryan
Lindenfield.
After Parkhill rallied with
two goals in the middle stan-
za, Jason Heywood put the
game away with two more
successful shots. Getting
assists were Brad Thompson,
Ryan Stuart and Paul
Charrette.
In the 4-2 loss to Strathroy,
Jason Heywood again took
care of the local scoring with
two goals, both on unassisted
efforts.
Against Goderich, Fred
Godbolt opened the scoring
for the Broncos on a pass
from Jason Heywood and the
latter notched the second and
final tally on a pass from
Ryan Stuart.
Waxers
In their first five games of
the new Shamrock hockey
league season, the Exeter
Waxers have gained two vic-
tories and a pair of ties in four
starts in the novice division.
The wins were 7-0 and 2-1,
respectively over Parkhill
and Lucan while the defeat
was 7-1 to St. Marys. The tie
contests both 4-4 were against
Strathroy and Goderich.
In the 7-1 loss to St. Marys,
the only Exeter goal came
from the stick of Chris Mac -
Local Hawks
blast namesakes
The Exeter Hawks
unceremoniously welcomed
their Mitchell namesakes
back into the league when
they bombed the visitors 10-4
at the rec centre, Friday.
The win evened the local
Hawks record at one win and
a loss in the young season
which the schedule -maker
has kept at a slow pace for the
reigning league champs. The
Hawks won't be playing at all
this week due to the fact their
lone scheduled game against
Thedford has been cancelled
at the rec centre this Friday
due to commencement exer-
cises for the Thedford team
members.
In Friday's game, veterans
Bill Glover and Brian Horner
showed their scoring prowess
as Glover hit four goals and
Horner registered a hat trick.
It was a contest that Exeter
threatened to blow open in the
second period as they took a
four -goal lead, but Mitchell
rebounded to keep close.
However, the visitors finally
wilted under the attack in the
third as the locals scored four
unanswered markers.
In all, Exeter peppered 60
shots at Steve Priest and
scored three times while they
were on the powerplay and
added three more while play-
ing a man short. The latter
statistic probably set a club
single game record.
Mitchell found the range
early against a rusty Peter
Dearing, who was making his
first appearance on the ice in
almost three weeks.
However, the sophomore net -
minder got better as the game
wore on and didn't allow a
goal in the last 23 minutes as
he worked out the kinks.
Scoring in single fashion for
the locals were Steve Gould,
Steve Prout and Scott Bogart.
Donald on a pass from Sean
McCann.
Sean McCann was the Ex-
eter scoring leader in the
shutout win by goalie Darren
Kints over Parkhill. McCann
scored three times with
Jamie vanDam helping on
two goals and Matt Godbolt,
Marty DeBruyn and Gavin
Snell picking up single assists.
Ian Jean was close behind
with a two goal performance
and single goals were shot by
Steve Stire and Gavin Snell.
Snell assisted on two goals
and getting one assist each
were Steve Cook, Trevor
Taylor, Chris Macdonald and
Ian Jean.
In the 4-4 draw with
Strathroy, it was all Sean
McCann for the Waxers as he
Two wins
for bantams
The Exeter bantams have
started the new Shamrock
hockey league season with
two straight wins after drop-
ping their first encounter.
The bantams lost 7-3 to
Strathroy and then came
back to edge Parkhill 4-2 and
Goderich 3-1.
In the loss to Strathroy, Jon
O'Connor opened the Exeter
scoring on a pass from Steve
Lingard in the first period
after Strathroy had taken a
two goal lead.
The next two and final goals
for the locals came in the mid-
dle period as Steve Lingard
hit on an unassisted effort and
Steve Anderson converted a
pass from captain Larry
Lewis.
In the win over Parkhill,
four different players shared
in the scoring.
The first period saw the Ex-
eter club take a 2-1 lead as
Jeff Dalrymple was suc-
cessful on a three-way effort
with Jon O'Connor and Steve
Lingard and Shaun Guillet
converted a pass from Mark
Coward.
Jon O'Connor registered
what proved to be the game
winning goal in the second
period with Steve Lingard
and Jeff Chipchase providing
the assists.
A similar three-way pass-
ing combination completed
the Exeter scoring. Shawn
Moore was the markesman
on passes from Mark Coward
and Henri DeBruyn.
Jon O'Connor was the scor-
ing star in the Wednesday win
Mohawks start Sunda
The Exeter Mohawks open
their 1984-85 home season at
the South Huron Rec Centre
Sunday, October 28 at 8:30
p.m. with the Wingham
Royals supplying the
opposition.
In their final tuneup for the
WOAA in intermediate league
opener, the Mohawks were in
Owen Sound Sunday night and
were defeated 7-5 by Wood-
ford in a very close and well
played contest.
The Mohawks were first to
score as Barry Baynham took
advantage of a Woodford
penalty at 2:10 of the opening
period and scored on passes
from defence partner Dave
Atthill and Rick Lindenfield
Later in the first period,
Fred Uemstock, Larry Bar -
foot and Brad Underwood
replied for Woodford.
Each team scored a pair of
goals in the middle frame.
The two scores for the
Mohawks came in a space of
21 seconds late in the period
and both were scored with the
opposition playing
shorthanded.
Dave Atthill notched the
first on passes from Barry
Baynham and Rick Linden -
field and Randy Kraul con-
verted a pass from Baynham.

the fourth straight time. Pete
Tuckey was the marksman on
a play started by Terry
Caldwell and Marty Wraith.
With eight minutes to go

goal lead. But, it didn't last
very long. Only a minute
later, again on a Mohawks
power play, Pete Tuckey not-
