Association thanking them for
their =2,000 donation to cover
the cost of fixing the floor in
the community centre
balcony.
After discussing Councillor
Bob Fisher's proposal for a
"simple property standards
bylaw" to persuade people to
keep weeds under control,
council decided that remedy
might create more problems
than it solved. The worst of-
fenders will be sent polite let-
ters in the spring asking for
their cooperation.
Councillor Keith Westlake
brought to council's attention
the dangers inherent in a bus
that is unloading secondary
school students on Main
Street. A letter will be sent to
both the bus company and the
Huron board of education ask-
ing the driver to use Edward
Street instead of the busy
intersection.
The Zurich and area fire
board decided at a recent
meeting to go back to the
terms of the original agree-
ment drawn up in 1976 and
once again base the percen-
tages paid by Zurich, Stanley
and Hay on the previous
year's assessment. Over the
years Hay's tax base has
grown, and Zurich's has
shrunk. For 1984, Hay will
pay 53 percent of the fire
board budget, Stanley 24 and
Zurich 23. The percentage will
be automatically adjusted
each year.
Fisher expressed disap-
pointment with the low tur-
nout for Septemberfest.
Although up to 500 were ex-
pected, only 200 attended.
"If we don't get support
we'll have to stop working our
butts off and pill it on people's
taxes", Fisher remarked.
The German band has been
rehired for another try next
year.

committee, which met on Oc-
tober 9, decided to approach
Gerard Masse and Cliff
Gingerich about returning the

12 and part lot 16, concession
11 to them as adjacent owners
of land purchased years ago
by the village for use as a
landfill site.
Council adjourned an hour
after convening.
