successful fashion show
Ladies Night Out, a first-
time fund-raising effort by the
Exeter Precision Skating
Club, was rated an outstan-
ding success by the 300 ladies
who attended the event in the
Exeter rec centre. The
festivities, coordinated by
Janice Brock, began with a
gourmet dinner featuring cor-
don bleu chicken breasts, and
topped off with a delicious
Irish Cream cheesecake.
Marie Tieman and Joanne
Wareham stuffed and bread-
ed 400 deboned chicken breast
with ham and cheese, and
Club president Karen
Davison spent a day and a
half in her kitchen preparing
20 cheesecakes with help
from Joanne Wareham.
The entertaining, sprightly
fashion show was coordinated
by Karen Pfaff, and displayed
shoes, uniforms, sleepwear,
sports togs, leisurewear and
dress -up clothes from most
Main Street stores.
A Monte Carlo night round-
ed out the evening.
Karen Davison said later
the Club will make this an an-
nual event if the final tally
proves all the hard work was
worthwhile financially. Twen-
ty families of mothers and
daughters previously involv-
ed in the Skating Club, plus
some outside help, planned
and executed the affair.
Young members cleared the
tables. Older ones served, and
mothers poured the tea and
coffee.
The skaters then stepped in
turn along the runway with
the same precision they will
later show on the ice.

AGRI-FOOD MONTH 1984
WHEREAS the prosperity and well-being of this municipality ore
dependent upon the co-operation of the farmers and urban residents
of society, and
WHEREAS the complexities of agriculture and the divergence of
farming activities from those of urban areas have led to a widening
gulf of misunderstanding, and
WHEREAS this misunderstanding must be eliminated, and each group
given the opportunity to understand the other if our Canadian way
of life is to endure, and
WHEREAS Agri -Food Week provides an unparalleled opportunity for
farmers and urban residents to become reacquainted,
1, THEREFORE, THOMAS J. CUNNINGHAM, Warden of the COUNTY OF
HURON, do hereby proclaim the period of October 1 through 31 to
be Agri -Food Month 1984 and I do further call upon all citizens of this
community to participate as they see fit to make Agri -Food Month
1984 a success in HURON COUNTY.
Dated at GODERICH this 4th day of October, 1984.

Street light denied
A request for a street light
on Acheson St. has been
denied by Exeter council due
to the. "prohibitive" costs
involved.
The public works commit-
tee recommended that no ac-
tion be taken at the present,
noting that the cost of install-
ing one light on the street
would be $856.
The request had been
received on behalf of a near-
by property owner in view of
i
the problem being experienc-
ed with pedestrians en-
countering skunks on the unlit
street as well as the number
of people who park in the
area.
"I don't think useage of the
street warrants (the cost)"
commented Councillor
Dorothy Chapman.
However, Councillor Ben
Hoogenboom replied that it
was a small price to pay to en-
sure that a potential problem
is eliminated.
