As well as preparations for
a BIA being set up in the
resort, the village blas been
awarded a provincial grant of
$10,000.00, to help pay for a
study and upgrading project
at its landfill site south of the
village, the province announc-
ed, Friday.
The work will be among the
first steps of preparation
necessary to apply for provin-
cial permission to expand the
current landfill operation,
said village clerk Dianne
Mollard. The site in Bosan-
quet Township occupies only
about two acres of a 25 acre
site.
A Mississauga firm will be
starting a soil study this
week, at an expense to the

Mixed Darks Begin
On Tuesday, September 25
the Legion Branch 498 began
their mixed dart league. Mike
Tataren and Fern • Gallant
won first place, followed by
Eva Taylor and Vern Gallant.
On Friday evening, eleven
tables of euchre were set up
in the upstairs of the Legion.
Ladies' high was captured by
Norma Carey, men's high
Lawrence Obermeyer, ladies'
low Muriel MacDonald and
men's low Joanne Hamilton.
George Gallant won the
cribbage title on Saturday
afternoon with the low going
to Verne Fischer.
Darts are every Tuesday at
8:30 p.m., euchre Friday
evenings, and cribbage on
Saturdays at 2:30. There will
be a Halloween party on Oc-
tober 27 at 8:30 p.m. A
meeting of the ladies will be
held on October 17 at 2:00
p.m. upstairs.
Bible Coffee Hour
Eighteen ladies were to the
Bible study Thursday at Nita
Sinclairs' home in Southcott
Pines.
Lesson 10, from Matthew
5:11-12 was led by Betty
Campbell. Two questions
discussed were "Is there
room for self-pity if we are
persecuted for righteousness

A total of 45 entries were
received in this year's Sand-
castle Day photo contest
sponsored by the Grand Bend
and area Chamber of Com-
merce. Entries were received
from Grand Bend, Zurich,
Woodstock, Stratford, Sarnia,
Toronto and Michigan.
Judges for the contest were
Terry Crabe, Naturalist,
Pinery Provincial Park; Gor-
don Lambert, artist; and Bob
Tremain, curator, Lambton
County. Heritage Museum.
Criteria for the contest was
creativity in treatment of the
subject and technical skill.

The first fall meeting of the
Grand Bend Orpha Club was
held on Monday. September
24 at the home of Eva Allister.
There was a social one-half
hour with tea and cookies to
begin the meeting.

Mabel Gill, for their donation
to the Heart Foundation.
The pennies were collected
for greeting cards and then

"Visit to the Doctor".

October 29 at 2:00 p.m. at
Dorothy Cuttings'.
1-11 Meeting
On Monday. September 24,
the Sensible Snackers held
their third meeting at Loreen
(:ill's home. At 6:30. after a
brief warm-up, the members
participated 'in a 1600 metre
run, at the end of which they
each determined their fitness
stamina. Then, they were
joined by the Grand Bend no.
2 club to view slides on
"Nutrition on the Run".
A short business meeting
was conducted by the presi-
dent, Tracy Soldan; followed
by' the minutes of the last
meeting by Tania Johnson.
