Storytime returns to Ailsa Craig library By ALICE DICKENS Storytime has resumed at the local library with Rita Dixon in charge. Ten children enjoyed last week's session. Last week Bonnie Wright was not in the library as she was attending a library course for county branch staff at Kempenfeladt Centre near Barrie. Roll call "wear your favorite color and tell why" was answered by 17 members. Guests for the evening were Judy Mills and Wendy King who presented Expressions in color. A surprise birthday party was held for Edna Reid Sun- day. Family and friends gathered to help her celebrate at Jeff and Karen Finch's home in Parkhill. student assistant at the library has left the library. She is now working at Craigholme Nursing Home. Carrie Ann Hartle has been hired to replace Annette. Carrie Ann will be working in the library Saturday mor- nings 9 -noon. The library is no longer open Saturday afternoon. A bus load of seniors left here September 11 for Mon- trose, Michigan to visit seniors there. Arriving there, the hosts once again provided a delicious noon meal. A special thank you goes to president Harold Guilfoyle for making the plans for this trip. The next afternoon the hap- py gang seniors were ready for euchre in the town hall with prizes going to Margaret Carter, Jean McCallum, Lor- rain and Koland Neil, Mar- jorie Davison and Janet Rose. More euchre September 26 followed by the Masonic supper. Recent visitors with Irene Dodds were Myrtle and Ben Simpson, Illinois. They visited a number of relatives during their visit here. Clandeboye Institute delighted the Craigholme residents with a program con- sisting of skits and music on Wednesday afternoon. To complete the afternoon, homemade cookies were served and enjoyed by all. Although this item is a wee bit late reaching you, I'm sure you'll be glad to hear about it. On August 8 Frank Turner, a highly respected resident of Craigholme Nursing Home, reached his 9oth birthday. Several days prior to the ac- tual date, son Ray of Win- nipeg, contacted the Craigholme staff asking them to prepare two birthday cakes for his dad to share with residents and staff. Frank was taken totally by surprise with this act of kind- ness. All enjoyed the treats. The staff replied "we keep secrets" when asked how all this came about. Mr. Turner is quite alert, has a good memory, gets about with no cane and is looking forward to next birthday. Esther Craven and Betty Gilbert returned home from a holiday in Edinburgh, Scotland on a grand tour with the Ontario Massed Legion Pipes and ')rums. Both ladies report a wonderful trip.
