IN MEMORIAM—
HEYWOOD — In loving memory
of a dear son, Bill who passed
away nine years ago September
13, 1975.
We have a book of memories
With pages made of gold
Today we gently turn a page
And remember days of old.
In our hearts he will always stay
Loved and remembered day 1 y
day
Always remembered and sadly
missed by Mom and Dad. 38'
JONES — In loving memory of a
dear mother and grandmother,
Eva Lily Jones, who passed away
September 21, 1982.
Beautiful memories are woven in
gold,
This is the picture we tenderly
hold,
Deep in our hearts her memory is
kept,
To love and to cherish and never
forget.
Sadly missed and dearly loved
by Mervin, Joan, Michael,
Michelle, Mark and Nancy. 38'
NEWEY — In loving memory of
a dear husband and father,
Donald Newey, who passed away
September 18, 1983.
Quietly remembered every day,
Still loved, still missed in every
way
Death cannot take away,
Memories that will always stay.
Lovingly remembered and sad-
ly missed by Grace, Carol, Col-
leen and Scott. 38'
PICKERING — In loving
memory of a dear father and
grandfather John (Jack) Elmer
who passed away two years ago
September 22, 1982.
September comes with sad
regret,
The month the day we will never
forget
You slipped away without a
goodbye,
But memories of you will never
die.
Beautiful memories are all that is
left.
Of the one we loved but will never
forget.
Lovingly rememberd by son
Terry, daughter-in-law Glenda,
grandchildren Justin and
Jennifer. 38'
PICKERING — In loving
memory of my dear husband
John (Jack) Elmer who passed
away two years ago September
22, 1982.
It is sad to walk the road alone.
Instead of side by side.
But to all there comes a moment
When the ways of life divide.
You gave me years of happiness.
Then came sorrow and tears,
But you left me beautiful
memories.
I will treasure through the years.
Though tears in my eyes do not
always glisten,
And my face is not always sad,
There is never a night or a
morning
That I do not think of the husband
I had.
Not a day do 1 forget you
In my heart you are always there,
For I love you and I miss you.
As it ends a second year.
Dearly loved and sadly missed
by your wife Marilyn. 38'
TAYLOR — In loving memory of
my dear son, our brother and un-
cle Orland R. (Dick) Taylor who
was tragically killed in a car ac-
cident September 23, 1982.
A new Star is shining in Heaven,
Placed there with such loving
care,
We know it must be the brightest
one.
Because my son and our brother
is there -
You left us just two years ago,
With an emptiness no one can fill,
We do not question the reason
why
We know it was God's will.
But that doesn't ease the
heartache,
Of each lonely night or day.
Or the way we all still miss you
Since God called you away
Lovingly remembered by
Mother, brothers Kenneth,
Donald and Douglas and their
families 38'

Atlas to sell for $45
Work on the Huron County
atlas is progressing favorably
county council learned
recently and the finished pro-
duct will be for sale in the new
year for $45.
In her monthly report to
council, atlas co-ordinator
Bev Brown said that while the
process appeared to be slow,
much progress was being
made. "I'm pleased. Things
are coming along now and we
are doing layout," she ex-
plained. "There was some
delay with the maps. Putting
it together is like a jigsaw
puzzle with five million
pieces."
Most of the material for the
atlas has been processed and
two people have been engag-
ed for editing and material
processing.
The cover of the atlas has
been designed by Gwen Kiar
of Goderich. Experienced in
both layout and design, Gwen
has been hired for the project
at a rate of $10 per hour. Her
cover design embodies the
county crest, the provincial
symbol and the Canadian flag
in gold leaf on a green
background.
A revised budget for the
atlas project. 'thowing total
expenditures of $178,750, was
approved by council. The
committee has realized over
$90,000 through the sale of
space and the balance of the
revenue is to be generated
through the sale of books.
Total expenses to date were
estimated at $16,786.

While the revised budget
was endorsed by council, the
cost of the atlas sparked
spirited debate. The steering
committee recommended
that the atlas sell for $45 while
retailers would be eligible for
a 30 percent discount and
charitable and volunteer
organizations purchasing in
excess of 10 books would be
eligible for a 15 percent
discount.
However, a motion asking
the committee to re-evaluate
the situation was endorsed.
when Reeve Don Johnston
suggested that any licenced
retailer could purchase a
number of books, resell them
at a much lower rate than the
going price of $45 and still
realize a profit.
"This could open a whole
can of worms," he said.
"Many retailers could buy the
books and I think we would
review the wording of the
clause.
It was the committee's in-
tention to offer the 30 percent
discount to only the 12 or 15
bookstores in the county that
would normally s Ikthat kind
of product, editor A.Y.
McLean explained. He fur-
ther suggested that Johnston
had a valid point and that the
committee should reconsider
the clause.

Fatalities
decrease
Motor vehicle fatalities
over the first six months of
1984 were down 18.1 percent
against the same period last
year," said Ontario Minister
of Transportation and Com-
munications James Snow.
During the January -June
period this year, 430 people
were killed on Ontario roads
-- down from 525 in the first
half of '83.
"The 1984 figures represent
the lowest six-month fatality
total since 1960 and can be at-
tributed, at least in part, to
the impact of anti-
drinking/driving cam-
paigns." Snow said.
"I suspect society at large
is no longer willing to accept
or tolerate people who drink
and drive. It's been a long
time coming, but I'm convinc-
ed it's a critical factor."
And statistics from the
Ministry of Revenue show
fuel consumption during the
year was up 3.5 percent over
1983, a common indicator that
Ontario residents are driving
more.
"Oddly enough, an increase
in fuel consumption usually
goes hand-in-hand with an in-
crease in the number of road
deaths," Snow said. "That's a
trend I'm pleased to see has
been reversed."
Motorcycle fatalities pro-
vided the one bleak spot in the
otherwise encouraging
report. The number of motor-
cycle drivers killed rose to 47
from last year's first-half toll
of 41, while passengers ac-
counted for seven road
deaths, one more than in 1983
"These numbers are
discouraging, particularly in
light of the fact more em-
phasis has been placed on
motorcycle safety," Snow
said.

Separate School Board.
Seamus Doherty of Clinton
and Ron Cork of Stratford
were named as parent
representatives on the steer-
ing committee at the board's
September 10 meeting.
The steering committee is
expected to establish a plan
that will help the board decide
how best to provide a Catholic
high school in the area.
The two men named were
elected by trustees from a list
of four names from Huron
County and five names from
Perth. Trustee Louis Maloney
of Dublin suggested the
names be recorded and if ad-
ditional help is required the
other people could help.
Father Jim Carrigan of
Dublin has been named as the
Huron -Perth Deanery's
representative on the
committee.
Trustees Dave Durand of
RR 2 Zurich and John Devlin
of Stratford will represent the
trustees. Chairman Ron Mur-
ray will also sit on the
committee.
The Huron -Perth unit of the
Ontario English Catholic
Teachers' Association has yet
to name a teacher to the
committee.
The committee is expected
to report back to the board in
November.
