'firr II tips U8BORN USBORM ;AIM' NYLANa` Cowgirls reach ladies final The Crediton Cowgirls ladies fastball team earned their way to the finals by defeating the Parkhill ladies two games to one in Huron; Middlesex play. The ladies meet position in their five series Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. Crediton and possibly back Lucan Sunday night. During their wins over Parkhill, all were exceptionally the winner the next first being op - best of Lucan in to two three taking games tight the with game by only one run and two games going into extra innings. In their first game, the Cowgirls had a super defen- sive game but had trouble with their bats. Parkhill took the lead in the second inning with two ,runs but Crediton tied it up with one run in the fourth and another run in the seventh. With two extra inn- ings, the Cowgirls brought in their winning run. Leading Crediton at the plate was Teresa VanRaay who had an outstanding night. She finished the game with a home run, double and three singles. Teresa's home run tied up the game and her steal to home won the game. Helping the cause was Deb- bie Lord with a double and a single. Tammy Regier and Wendi Schwindt added two singles apiece and singles were hit by Karen Williams, Marilyn Smithers, Kelly Heywood, Wilma Lagerwerf and Judy Steeper. In their second game played in Parkhill, Crediton lost to a disappointing 6-5 score. Errors and ner- vousness caused a lot of pro- blems defensively as the ladies had no problem with their bats. Leading Crediton at the plate was Debbie Lord with two doubles and a single. Fay Schenk had a successful night as she got on base all three times up to bat. Brenda Curry and Karen Williams pounded out long balls for two triples and two hits apiece were hit by Teresa VanRaay, Wilma Lagerwerf and Tammy Regier. Pitching for Crediton was Kelly Heywood. In the last and final game in the semi-final division, the Cowgirls came on strong in the second, third and fourth inning to take a 11-3 lead. The Crediton squad was excited and knew they had to win to go on in the playoffs but the last three innings saw Parkhill inch their way up and tie the score at 11-11. Teresa VanRaay with her ability to come through in the crunch batted out a triple and Tammy Regier pounded her home with another long ball to take the win 12-11. Leading Crediton at the plate were Wilma Lagerwerf and Debbie Lord with two doubles and a single. Teresa VanRaay, Brenda Curry and Tammy Regier had two hits apiece while Karen Williams and Brenda Wilds helped the cause with one hit apiece. Trailers get five points The Trailers were the only team to collect five points in Friday's second week of ac- tion in the Exeter Legion mix- ed dart league. Carmel Bullets defeated Lucan Sterling Fuels in two straight games to win the Exeter Men's Rec League fastball championship. A strong batting perfor- mance by Mt. Carmel won the first game over Lucan 7 - :3 with starting pitcher Dave Prout picking up the win. Veteran pitcher Steve Johns recorded win in the se- cond game with a 4-3 victory. The new committee for next season was elected with Grace Drummond president, Doris Ilacknev treasurer and Helen Burton, games committee Ousted in league Royals win again in Delaware For the second year in a row the Exeter Royals cap- tured the Delaware fastball tourney and 1]600.00. They opened up the tourney against St. Thomas Empire Hotel and came away with a 3-2 win. The Royals opened the scoring in the first as Doug Pearson walked and scored on a Brian Noyes double. St. Thomas knotted the score in the second and the Royals added two runs in the fifth as Dan Heywood singled, Barry Baynham reached on an error and both scored as Brian Noyes doubled. St. Thomas scored their final run in the sixth. Dan Heywood picked up the win giving up three hits while striking out nine batters. In game two, the Royals edged Dutton 3-2. They trail- ed 1-0 in this game until the fifth inning when Cec Nickles, and Dan Heywood singled, Doug Pearson sacrificed and Barry Baynham singled in two runs. He then scored as Brian Noyes singled. Dutton added their final run in the seventh. Brian Hodgins picked up the win allowing three hits while striking out two batters. This put the Royals in the final against Glencoe. They started in the top of the first with four runs as the Glencoe pitcher walked five batters and Willie Lamb singled. Glencoe came back with two runs in their half of the first. In the second inning Dan Heywood reached on an error and Barry Baynharn's triple drove him in. Brian Hodgins singled him in. Glencoe added two more runs in the fifth to narrow the score to 6-4 but the Royals added a run in the top of the sixth as Doug Pearson doubl- ed and came in to score as the centerfielder misplayed the ball. Dan Heywood picked up the win in the championship game. He went five innings allowing five hits while strik- ing out four batters. Brian Hodgins finished up allowing no runs while giving up two hits with one strikeout. Members of the champion- ship team included Doug Pearson, Dan lleywood, Willie Lamb, Brian Noyes, Brian liodgins, Barry Baynham, Mike Desjardine, Jeff Lindenfield, Cecil Nickles. and coaches Sam Skinner and Fred Cook. Only nine players could make the tourney with a top effort from each one. Royals season ends quickly The Royals regular season ended last Sunday night as they lost the fifth and deciding game to Nairn 3-1 in Exeter. The Royals had taken a 2-1 lead in games last week ast they won 5-3. Brian Hodgins picked up the win while Ran- dy Malcolm took the loss. Nairn evened the series at two games each as they won 7-3 in Nairn Tuesday. Ernie Schlegal picked up the win while Dan Heywood suffered the loss. In game five Nairn scored two runs in the first inning on two hits, a walk and an error.
