Usborne plans
drinking group
On August 14, the Township
of Osborne council agreed
with Attorney General Roy
McMurtry and local MPP
Jack Riddell's call for local
establishment of a committee
of local residents to discuss
and formulate ideas. on the
subject of drinking and
driving.
These local committees
would deal with such areas as
law, education, alternative
sentencing, rehabilitation
programs and communica-
tions. This local organization
would also be asked to take
part in conventions on the
subject of drinking and driv-
ing from time to time.
"As Mr. Riddell pointed
out, as many as one in every
eight drivers on the roads of
Canada are legally impaired
and that 2,500 people lost their
lives to drinking drivers last
year," commented Reeve
Gerald Prout.
It is for this reason that the
council of the Township of
Usborne ask any of their
residents who may wish to sit
on such a committee to
telephone the administration
offices and leave their names,
at 235-2900.
