At Hully Gully
National motocross races
The final of the 125 and 250
Expert National on Monday
Labour Day, September 3,
will be Canada's most com-
petitive and best outdoor
motocross event ever held in
Canadian competition.
Top top 100 riders in Cana-
dian motocross will be at Hol-
ly Gully, competing in the
final round of the 1984 Expert
Championships, including
Canada no. 1 plateholder Ross
"Rollerball" Pederson of
Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Pederson will be attemp-
ting to win his fifth con-
secutive National title.
However, this maybe harder
than ever to accomplish this
year. Along with Pederson,
Mike Harnden of Oshawa, the
number 2 ranked rider plus
others like Pierre Couture of
Drummondville, Quebec, and
Tim Krough of North Van-
couver, B.C., will be riding
alongside some of the best On-
tario has to offer.
Sarnia's Dave Beatty, one
of the biggest surprises in the
Expert Class has shown and
exceptional performance and
is currently in 5th position
overall in the 1984 National
Standings.
Scott Wilson of London, one
of the Top Senior riders in
1983 has moved up into the
ranks of the Expert riders
and has already proven
himself as one of the top con-
tenders. Wilson currently run-
ning in ninth spot is separated
from the top five riders by on-
ly 13 points.
Hully Gully track builder
and last year's number three
placed Ontario Open Expert,
Chuck Collins of Varnawillbe
using his knowledge of his
•
own track on September 3rd
in an attempt to fight off the
challenge of Pederson and the
others.
At the final round of the Ex-
pert Nationals, spectators can
also' see the top senior and
schoolboy riders hit speeds of
up to 120 km/h and flying as
much as 100 feet through the
air over Hully Gully's special-
ly designed National Track.
Ross Pederson of Medicine
Hat, Alberta has been
Canada's Number 1
plateholder in motocross for
four years running and ob-
viously has no intentions of
giving up his title as Canadian
Champion.
In any province 'Rollerball'
is virtually unbeatable. In the
first four rounds of -the 1984
Expert National Motocross
Series, Pederson has won
seven out of eight motos in the
125 cc class. Since the first
National race in Vallee Jonc-
tion, Quebec, Pederson has
also won Provincial races in
Quebec, Ontario and Alberta.
He continued his string of the
National Victories with the
125 cc wins, and victories in
both motos of the Open Cham-
pionships. This leaves Peder-
son in the lead, in all three
championships.
Ross Pederson started rac-
ing at a relatively older age
than most motocrossers. He
was sixteen when he com-
peted in his first race. He
went on to win the Provincial
Mondciy
Championships and from
there he progressed through
the ranks up into the Expert
class. He is now a world-class
rider, well known throughout
Europe, where motocross is a
National sport and North
America.

Backed by the excellent pit-
ching of Brian Hodgins and
Dan Heywood, the Exeter
Royals won their last two
games of the regular season

Thursday in Lieury,
Hodgins held a hardhitting
Lieury squad to three hits in
a 6 to 1 victory.

Paul McKnight.

in the fourth inning as Randy
Kraut singled, was sacrificed
to second by McKnight and
scored on a single by Jeff
Lindenfield.
Lieury moved within three

Robinson led off with a single
and scored on a base hit by
Glen Thompson. However two
runs in the top of the seventh
sealed the victory for the
Royals.
Monday night in Ilderton,
Dan Ileywood hurled a four
hitter as the Royals secured
their first place finish with a
4-1 victory over a game Ilder-
ton club who were playing
their fourth game in four
days. Heywood struck out
eight and walked nine to
claim the victory.
Ilderton opened the scoring
in the third inning on an RBI
single by Medd. The Royal
bats finally came alive in the
fifth inning. Jeff Lindenfield
led off with a triple and scored
on a perfect squeeze bunt by
Will Lamb who also scored on
a two out single by shortstop
Barry Baynhani.
The Royals secured the vic-
tory in the top of the sixth in-
ning as Gary Skinner singled,
Randy Kraul doubled and
both runners scored on a
single by Jeff Lindenfield who
was the hitting star of the
evening with two hits, a run
scored and 2 RBI's.
The Royals finished the
season with a 20 and seven
record and a one game lead
over Bryanston and Poplar
Hill.
They will begin a best -of -
five quarter round series
Thursday night at the South
Huron Rec Centre against an
opponent yet to be decided.
They hope to see a good tur-
nout of fans to support them
in their quest for a league
championship.
