Hully Gully house league graduate, Sean VanDongen of Clinton surprised the motocross fraternity by win- ning the Schoolboy Cham- pionship of Canada in 1981. In 1983, another house league grad, Stephen Luyks of Dor- chester, went on to win the Canadian National Senior 125 Championship at the Na- tionals held at Hully Gully that year. Also in 1983, Chuck Collins, Hully Gully's chief in- structor, and track builder, finished,the year as No. 3 On- tario Open Expert. Hully Gul- ly racing team member, Jim Kuches of Brantford, was the Ontario Senior 250 Champion. These gentlemen are now in- structors at the summer camps, headed by chief in- structor, Collins. The summer camps are a full week of intensive hands- on instruction at Hully Gully's championship facility. Students stay at the facility from Sunday night through the following Saturday's House League races, when they can challenge the regulars with their new-found knowledge. Each day begins at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast, excer- cises and lessons. After lunch, Ladies play bingo, bongo A bingo, bongo, bongo golf tournament was held this week by the ladies club of the Exeter Golf and Country club. Winners were Peggy Ferguson, Helen Webber, Linda Sanders, Helen Wasnidge, Jeanette Turner, Grace Drummond, Betty Smith, Irene Davis and Jean Smith. Ex eter took the lead on a goal by Ryan Kyle from a scramble in front of the Lucan net. After the first goal Marty Debruyn scored six times in a row to make the final score 7-0 for Exeter. The Lucan 2 team proved to be too strong for the previous- ly unbeaten Exeter team. The Exeter team managed to score two goals by Jamie VanDam but Lucan led throughout the game and the final score was 7-2. Exeter 3 travelled to Nairn to play the Nairn 2 team. Ex- cellent play by Darrin Kints and Gavin Poole kept the Nairn attack under control and Dennis Hodgins looked after all the scoring for the Exeter team with three goals. A well deserved win for the Exeter 3 team after a hard fought game. Final score 3-1. In atom play Exeter 1 travelled to Grand Bend for a game. In a well played con- test, both teams had some ex- cellent scoring chances with Grand Bend converting one of those chances into a goal. In the second half, Exeter 1 came on strong and it was Jason Heywood that scored the tying goal after a beautiful run up the wing by Tim Brand who then put the pass through to Heywood. Both teams had chances to win the game but the final score of 1-1 was a true reflec- tion of the play. Exeter 2 played at home against Lucan 1 and did not fare too well. The Lucan team dominated the play and outscored the Exeter team 6-1. The goal for Exeter was scored by Kevin Johns. Despite the loss, coach Bill Dinney was happy with the performance of his team. "They're starting to put things together and the next few weeks should bring a real improvement in the team's play,"according to the coach. Exeter 3 played a hard fought game at the high school against Bryanston. Ex- eter took a first half lead of 24 on goals by. After a close game which saw Grand Bend creating the first real test for the defense of coach Mike Cregan's team. Exeter 3 however withstood the test and after a well played game, Exeter went ahead and came out as the winners. Final score: 3-1. Tuesday night, Liz Lamport was the overall winner with two wins and an aggregate of 30. Bill Lamport was the run- nerup with a score of 27 and John Everly, Walter Spencer and Charles Hendy were deadlocked for third place with identical scores of 26. Marshall Dearing followed with 23 and Lila Smith scored 16. Bill Rogerson was Thurs- day's best competitor with a score of 30. Next came John Cooper, Cleve Pullman, Lillian Pym and Isabelle Rogerson. Competition was extremely close Saturday night as four Specials at Hully GuIIy During the month of July, Hully Gully will be running a special 3 race CMA motocross summer series. After the cancellation of the Expert Nationals and their subsequent rescheduling as a final championship on Labour Day, September 3, there has been a change in the schedul- ing of Hully Gully's motocross series. The first race in the sum- mer series took place Mon- day. The next race in the series, another all -class event, is scheduled for Sun- day, July 15. The third race in the series, Sunday, July 29, is another all -class event, as well as being an Expert points race, and a contingency race. The major manufacturers pay prize money to high place finishers in this event. Besides the top calibre of competition for the triple series leading up' to the September 3rd Labatt's Ex- pert National Final, Hully Gully organizers have put together a program of other special events, including a dance and party after each one. ;.► RECALLING OLD TIMES — Talking about the good old days at Hensall Centennial Sunday were members of the 1960 Hensall bantam baseball msmbers of the 1960 Hensall bantam baseball team Brian Christian, Dennis Mock and Steve Kyle. In the second half, coach Herman Wulterkens made some changes to have his players play some different positions for more ex- perience. The changes resulted in a few chances by Nairn, resulting in another goal for Nairn. In the last 15 minutes of the game however Exeter took control to increase the score however it remained at 3-2. Scoring for Exeter were Henri DeBruyn (two) and Gary Wilson (one). Exeter 2 travelled to Grand Bend for their game. In the second hall coach Ron Hannah's charges never looked back scoring three more goals and not allowing Grand Bend any more real scoring chances. Final score: 5-2.
