That year, the Canadian Motorcycle Association, the official sanctioning body of motocross presented Hully Gully the Junior and Schoolboy National. That event earned CMA's highest seal of recognition, the Organizer's Award for 1982. T -A photo All minor soccer clubs underway in new year A full slate of, games was played by Exeter teams in the Lucan and district soccer league this week. In squirt division play Ex- eter 1 played Exeter 2. After a well played game Exeter 2 came out the winner by a score of 3-0. The score was no reflection of the play, with Exeter 1 having some good scoring chances, but good goalkeeping by Rob Wagner closed the door. Exeter 2 goals were scored by Shawn McCann, Jamie Vandam and Jeremy Truemner. Exeter 3 played at home against Grand Bend and were. outscoredby a margin of 6-1. The Exeter team gave it a good effort but the size and calibre of the Grand Bend players was just too much for them. The lone goal for Ex- eter 3 was scored by Gavin Snell on a penalty shot. Royals extend winning streak The Exeter Royals extend- ed their latest winning streak in the Southwestern Fastball League to five games as they won three this week. Wednesday in Sylvan, a six run outburst in the second in- "ning paved the way fbr,a 16 to 6 victory. Barry Baynham led the way at the plate with three. singles as every member of the starting line- up contributed at least one hit. Starting pitcher Brian (Ace) Hodgins pitched up the win as he hurled an eight hitter. Thursday, starting pitcher Dan Heywood notched 14 strikeouts as the Royals scratched out an eXciting 6 to 5 victory over West Corners. Heywood also chipped in with a double and single and scored 2 runs. Jim Allison added a single and double and scored a run. Gary Skinner also knocked in a run with a single. Sunday night in Poplar Hill, veteranPaulMcKnight crush- ed a two -out three run homer in the top of the seventh inn- ing to as the Royals prevail- ed by a score of 7 to 4. With the score tied at four entering the seventh inning, Rob Snell led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Heywood. One out later, Barry Baynham was issued an intentional walk setting the stage for McKnight's heroics. Starting pitcher Brian Hodgins pitched the first four innings giving up four runs on five hits while striking out two. Dan Heywood pitched up the win in relief as he blank- ed the home team the rest of the way. The Royals now enjoy a record of nine wins and two losses. Their next action will be at home, June 14 at.9:00 against the defending league champs, Lucan Irish. this should be one of the best games of the year. Why not come out and enjoy some e -.- citing fastball? Ladies best in bowling Ladies dominated the win- ner's circle in two regular jitneys held this week at the Exeter lawn bowling club. Tuesday night Lillian Pym combined two wins and ag- gregate of 29 to capture first place. Sam Bowers was next with an aggregate of 27, Pete McFalls was third at 26 and Velma Huff and Thelma Russell were deadlocked for fourth at 23. Thursday's top performer was Leone Brooks with an ag- gregate of 2.5 to go with a pair of victories. Tied (or second at 22 was Ernie Chipchase and Anna Ballantyne. They were followed by Bill Rogerson and RoseBlanchardwho came all even with scores of 21. The atom teams started the second week of their schedule. In their first game Exeter 1 played Exeter 2. The game was very entertaining with some, good chances on both sides in a game between two evenly matched teams. The final score was 1-1. For Exeter 1 the goal was scored by Mark McDonald and for Exeter 2 by Jeremy Brock. The same week Exeter 3 palyed against Grand Bend and came out on the losing end of a 3-1 score after a fair- ly evenly played game. The Exeter goal was scored by Steve Rankin. In last week's atom play .Exeter 1 played Exeter 3 and after a very nerve wrecking game Exeter 1 came out on top by a score of 2-1. Scoring for Exeter 1 were Jason Heywood and Mark Brintnell with Steve Rankin replying for Exeter 3, his second goal in as many games. Exeter 2 travelled to Arva and were kept scoreless by a bigger and more experienced Arva team. Final score 3-0. In mosquito play this week Exeter played Grand Bend and lost by a score of 2-1. A real heartbreaker for the Ex- eter squad. They, played bet- ter than Grand Bend but their attempts to score were foiled either by fee goalpost, the crossbar or by the except tionally well playing goalie for Grand Bend. Lone goalgetter for Exeter 1 was Steven Dubarry. Exeter 2 entertained Nairn Monday night, and entertain they did. They outscored Nairn by 81. An excellent start for new coach Lorne Rideout and his team. Scoring for Exeter 2 were David Boersma with three, Allen McFalls 'with two. Shawn McFalls, Ray Boersma and Brent Rideout one each. Exeter 3 played at the highschool Tuesday against Arva. The defence on the Ex- eter team played an excellent game holding Arva to only one goal: The Exeter for- wards took excellent care of their opportunities by scoring five goals and hitting the goalpost a few times. Scoring for Exeter 3 were Mark D'An- na with three, Todd McCann and Chris Gardner one each. It looks like a very strong mosquito division this year and all three of the Exeter teams should.be close to the top of the, stantiings by the end of the season. Both Exeter pee wee teams squared off against each other at the Canners field for their first game of the season. The bigger and more ex- perienced Exeter 2 team took a 2-0 halftime lead on the goals by Chad Miller and Eric Remkes. kids born in 1968 and 1969. There is still room for some players on the team, if in- terested contact 234-6798. Busche. Inlhe second half the deter- mination of Exeter" 1 proved to be the difference as they scored three unanswered goals to win the game by a 3-2 score. Scoring for Exeter 1 were Henri Debruyn, Said Osman and Rob Clipperton. Both teams deserve alot of credit for displaying an ex- cellent brand of soccer just one hour after a downpour that left water standing on most of the field. The Exeter bantam team will start their season this week in a game against Grand Bend at the Canners field. The bantams will be playing an exhibition schedule because there is not enough competition in this area for their age group. The team will be coached by Bill Oosterloo and is open to those After successful Junior Na- tional, the CMA awarded Hul- ly Gully the 1983 Senior Motocross National. Labatt's and the London Free Press lent their support to the event, and that year, from among hundreds of riders, a Hully Gully "house league" graduate, Stephen Luyks, of Dorchester, too the Senior National 125 cc Crown. The Expert Nationals are held in different locations throughout Canada. On June 17, riders from across Canada, including the number one plate holder, and now world-class racer, Ross Pederson of Medicine Hat. Alberta, will converge on Hul- ly Gully for this event. This Expert National is ex- pected to be Canada's best race as riders swing west after their race at Toronto Supercross in Toronto on June 8. The 125 and 250 Expert Na- tional is the pinnacle of Hully Gully's events so far, and will prove to be the most exciting and competitive motocross event ever held. While Ross Pederson is often described -as "unbelievable and unbeatable" after winning every major motocross Ex- pert championship over the past two seasons, he'll have plenty of competition on Sunday. Number o1 Canadian rider Mike Hamden from Oshawa will be on hand, as will the number three and four classifications in the per- sons of Pierre Couture of Drummondville, Quebec, and Tim Krough of Vancouver. Among the Ontario riders expected to be in the running throughout the test are Dave Beatty, Sarnia; Stephen Luyks, Dorchester; Scott Wilson, London; Jim Kuches, Brantford; Jeff Devereaux, Sarnia; Rob Hodgson, Cam- bridge; Chuck Collins, Var- na; and Sean Van Dongen, Clinton. The latter two earned their stripes on the Hull Gully track Exeter ladies golf results Hazel Beaver recorded the lowest gross score for ladies of the Exeter Golf and Coun- try club as they started their season. Peggy Ferguson while Barb Har- ' rison, Ilelen Wasnidge, Betty Smith and Olga Chipchase received honourable mention. A week later, Grace Far- quhar attained the best score on the third hole, Dorothy Kipfer needed the least number of putts, Alma Ether- ington was judged the most honest golfer and hidden scores were won by Eileen Rannie, Shirley Davidson, Grace Drummond and Edna and in fact Collins is thetrack designer and builder. Collins has added a new fast natural grass section for the Nationals. The tabletop jump has been lengthened, a mam- moth double jump over a deep sand pit has been constructed, and ttA whoops have been spread out farther apart. These changes will make the track even more deman- ding and more technical for the riders. I would like to thank the teams from the Ex- eter Ladies Slow Pitch League and the Exeter Greys Fastball team for their help in the runn- ing of our tournament.
