Homemcik.rs report very successful
Huron Town and Country
Homemakers had a very good
year, according to the report
presented by executive direc-
tor Jean Young to the
organization's annual
meeting held in the Seaforth
Community Centre on April
11.
After entering 1983 with a
deficit, the year-end audit
showed receipts of $367,125
and disbursements of $358,631
and separates
Still an excellent selection of

produced a surplus of $4,125 to
carry into 1984.
The registered, non-profit
charitable organization was in-
corporated in 1978 to provide
the services of trained
homemakers to people in
their own homes throughout
Huron County.
Visiting homemakers are
qualified to assume full or
partial responsibility for in-
fants, children, youths, adults
and the elderly. They can give
personal care including
bathing, help with eating, and
simple bedside care under
medical direction.
Homemakers will supervise
meal planning, pnepare
nourishing food and special
diets, do shopping, light
housekeeping, laundry and
other necessary tasks like
mending.
Each homemaker is also
willing to offer a listening ear
and moral support over a
friendly cup of tea. A close
bond has develoPed between
many visiting homemakers
and their clients.
Last year 102 homemakers
and homehelpers provided
51,663 hours of service to 1,838
clients. Of these, 56.6 percent
were private clients paying
the private hourly rate of
$6.75. The proceeds of the
organization's annual fund-
raising campaigns and sale of
amaryllis bulbs go into a con -
tingency fund to reduce the
rate to clients in need of
homemaking services but
unable to pay the entire cost.
Board chairman Thea
Trick acknowledged a grant
of $33,000 for the support of
the elderly from the ministry
of community and social ser-
vices, and thanked Huron
County council for their third
consecutive yearly contribu-
tion of $10,000 to be used for
service delivery.
In her remarks, Mrs. Trick
said the Town and Country
Homemakers' mandate and
goal is to serve the existing
needs of Huron County, and
emphasized that all dollars
raised in the county are spent
in the county.
The organization has
received requests from other
counties asking for help and
advice either in setting up a
similar agency or expanding
existing services.
Guest speaker Angela Ar -
year
mitt, former dean of part-
time and continuing educa-
tion at UWO, entertained the
audience for an hour with a
string of light-hearted anec-
dotes to illustrate her theme
that bringing happiness to
a homeis as essential as pro-
viding basic care and one of
the Bibical proverbs affirms
that "a merry heart doeth
good like' a medicine, but a
downcast spirit drieth the
bones."
New board members ac-
claimed to office are Bev
Brown, Bluevale; Libbie
Davis, Grand Bend; Lois
Hodgert, Seaforth; Eileen
Rannie, Hensall and Helen
Underwood, Wingham. They
join serving members Marie
Bolton, Dublin; Thea Trick,
Clinton; Paul Steckle, Zurich;
Elaine Gottschall, Kirkton;
Jane LeVan, Wingham; Ruth
Linton, Clinton; Betty
McGregor, Kippen; and
Lauretta Seigner, Exeter.
