Couple celebrate twenty-fifth
An Open House was held on
Saturday February 25th, 1964
at the Masonic Hall, Exeter in
honour of Ken and Marlene
Parker who were married at
Faith Tabernacle, London,
February 21, 1959. Family,
friends and relatives were
entertained by their family
Cathy and Doug Prout, Kevin
and Sharon Parker, Jamie
and Lorie Lynn Parker and
grandchildren Adam and An-
drew Prout.
Ken and Marlene were..the
recipients of numerous an-
niversary cards and gifts.
Those serving at the after-
noon tea were Lori Lynn
Parker, Carla Dalton, Judith
Parker, Sharon Parker, Bon-
nie Obre and Brenda
Triebner.
A family dinner was
catered to by the Eastern Star
Ladies at 5:30 p.m. Kevin
Parker was Master of
Ceremonies. Lori Lynn
Parker played piano solos
and Brenda Tr?bner sang
"Evergreen" and "Great is
Thy Faithfulness" accom-
panied at the piano by Sharon
Parker. Following the dinner
guests were entertained at the
home of Doug and Cathy Pro-
ut, Exeter.
Family gathering
A family gathering to
celebrate the birthday of Mrs.
Christina Taylor of Hensall
was held on Saturday evening
at the home of her son and
daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Taylor. Twenty-six at-
tended the dinner and a most
enjoyable evening. Mrs.
Taylor was the recipient of
many beautiful cards and
flowers.
The ladies of Carmel
Presbyterian Church are
hosting the World Day of
Prayer Service on Friday
March 2 at 2:00 p.m. They are
holding a Daffodil Tea and
Bake Sale on Saturday April
14 at 2 p.m. in the school room
of the church. Everyone is
welcome.
Presbyterian Church
Rev. Kenneth Knight con-
ducted worship in Carmel
Presbyterian Church on Sun-
' day. Mrs. Joan Keys precid-
ed at the piano for the service
of song.
The Worlds Day of Prayer
will be held in Carmel Church
on Friday March 2 at 2:00
p.m. when Mrs. Yvonne
Reynolds will be guest
speaker. Everyone is
welcome.
Mr. James Sangster, who
suffered a heart attack on
Christmas Day and spent
several weeks in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London and has
since been recuperating at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Holland, Clinton was able to
return to his home on Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Parker returned home after
spending a few days at
Niagara Falls.
Queensway news
Ladies from Kippen United
Church were in on Monday
afternoon to play bingo with
the residents.
Tuesday morning the bak-
ing club got together to bake
one of their favourite recipes.
Everyone enjoyed baking and
also the sampling when the
"goodies" were all done. The
Tuesday afternoon church
service was conducted by
Rev. Bob Matheson assisted
by Marjorie Johns at the
piano. Tuesday evening
beautiful sounds of music fill-
ed the Home when the
Lakeview Conservative
Youth sang for us. We are cer-
tainly pleased that these
young people will be coming
to sing on a monthly basis.
Wednesday morning the
Health Care Aides who were
here for their clinical day led
the residents in a sing -song.
In the afternoon a baby
shower for one of the staff,
Sheila Davies, and her baby
son, Michael was attended by
both staff and residents.
Thursday evening ladies
from the Zurich Mennonite
Church along with some of
their children sang for the
residents. A very enjoyable
time was had by those
attending.
Neil Regan "came out on
top" on Friday as high
bowler. Murray Howe had a
good game and was not far
behind.
Sunday afternoon movies
were shown for anyone
interested.
Hensall United Church
Holy Communion was
observed at the United
Church on Sunday morning
when a large attendance took
part in the service. Greeting
the congregation were Mary
Kinsman and Rick Parsons,

Jim Parsons, Murray Ware-
ing and Murray McGregor
were the ushers.
Mr. McDonald spoke on the
subject of Manners Around
the Lord's Table looking at
the parables in Luke 14. He
dealt with our attitudes
around the Table, our at-
titudes towards others and the
importance of the Table itself.
The children's story told of
what the Communion means.
The choir sang two very
beautiful anthems "Love of
the Father" by Bancroft and
"God That Madest Earth and
Heaven". Assisting the
minister in the Communion
Service were Kay Mock and
Rita Scholl. Serving Commu-
nion were Jean Cole, Dorothy
Brintnell, Donald Stebbins,
Hans Gerstenkorn, Bill
Bailey, Bill: Fuss, Nancy
Campbell and David Brock.
During the next three
weeks Rev. Gordon Pickell
will be the guest minister.
The flowers at the front of
the church were placed in lov-
ing memory of Hilda Beer.
The Christian Development
committee of the United
Church met on Monday even-
ing and along with a review of
the Explorer, Messenger,
Sunday School work, plans
were made to begin a couple's
club with the first meeting on
Thursday March 29 when all
couples are invited to attend.
They also made plans to hold
the Vacation Church School
the week of August 27 to
August 31, this being later
than other years due to the
Centennial Celebrations in
Hensall.
The Membership Commit-
tee of The United Church met
on Tuesday evening to make
plans for their float and the
Open -House at the church
during Centennial weekend.
In order to finance this a
special Bake Sale will be held
on Saturday March 31 at 11:00
a.m.
Despite the cold weather,
the Sunday School students
and staff enjoyed a hay ride
on Friday afternoon. With
Steven Corbett and Mervyn
Fields as drivers the wagons
went out through the country.

a hot-dog supper with
chocolate milk. Following the
supper a film was shown the
children adding interest to an
exciting and interesting after-
noon. In charge of the hayride.

Mrs. Chester Earl, Atwood,
spent Thursday and Friday of
this past week visiting her
brother Rev. McDonald at the
Manse.
Hensall 4-11 Club
The meeting commenced
with the 4-11 Pledge recited by
all members. The minutes of
the last meeting were read by
secretary Dianne Stebbins.
Then our president Pat Masse
handed the meeting over to
our leaders.
All the members were
given a picture of an apple,
material basting thread and a
needle. Our leaders taught us
how to quilt and make the
fabric sandwich. I think We all
enjoyed it although some of us
had a lot of trouble. I'm sure
most of us can't wait until the
next meeting.

25th anniversary of Mr. and

ed home after spending a
month visiting with her
daughter Mrs. Shirley Avery
at Deerfield Beach, Florida,
also with Mr. Don • Avery,
Scott and Lisa, Boynton

sall Arena from 7:30 to 8:30
p.m. will run for eight weeks.
Stanley sets
1984 pay rates
The wages of township
employees were raised an
average of five percent for
1984 when Stanley council met
for their regular February
meeting. Clerk -treasurer Mel
Graham's salary goes from
$17,800 to $18,800 but his $4,000
car allowance remains the
same. Assistant clerk -
treasurer Betty Graham's
salary would. be $10,800 up
from $10,200.
Road superintendent Bill
Taylor's hourly rate rises
from $10.20 to $10.70, the
grader operator from $9.15 to
$9.60, the truck driver will
now receive $9.35 instead of
$8.90, and casual labour will
be paid $7.68 per hour, up
from $7.25.
Building inspector Herman
Van Wieren's monthly salary
goes from $250 to $275.
Five tile drainage loans
totalling $40,000 were approv-
ed. Annual grants paid to
various organizations includ-
ed $125 to the .Children's
Hospital of Western Ontario,
$125 to the Salvation Army,
$100 to the Bayfield
Agricultural Society, $100 to
the Ontario March of Dimes,
$125 to the Huron Country
Playhouse, and $50 to the Cen-
tral Huron Agricultural
Society.
Workmen are pouring ce-
ment for the three bays in the
work centre this week.
The total value of building
permits issued in 1983 was
$1,551,000, which includes the
new municipal complex. This
is up considerably from the
1982 total of $903,500.
Stanley will apply for a
summer student through the
Ontario Municipal Ad-
ministration program, which
pays 75 percent of the tem-
porary employee's wages.
