South Huron's girls
volleyball team have their
last opportunity tomorrow to
improve their league record
in hopes of gaining the easier
pool in next Wednesday's
Huron -Perth qualifying
tournament.
Tomorrow the girls travel
to Clinton to play Goderich
and Northwestern. The ten
teams that qualify for the
tournament next week in St.
Marys will be divided into two
pools. The odd numbers will
be in one, the even numbers
in the other. From that round
robin play the top three teams
in each pool qualify for the
Huron -Perth finals on the
27th.
Neither senior or junior
team played up to its ability
at last Tuesday's league tour-
nament in Palmerston.
The juniors, again showing
their comeback ability,
struggled from a 12-4 deficit
to beat Norwell 17-15 and then
15-8. Listowel also split with
South Huron. Our juniors
always seem to start off slow
- lost 15-9 then turned it
around to win the second
game 15-12.
The 2 and 2 record was the missing their two starting set -
same for the seniors as they ters, split with Seaforth and
were unable to get up for Pttrolia but defeated
those league games. Norwell Chatham twice. Playing in
was allowed tocome too close the semi-finals against
with Exeter managing 15-12 Dresden, South Huron won
and 15-5 defeats. The girls
froze up against Listowel, a
good team but not near the
capabilities of the South
Huron Squad. Listowel won
both games 10-15, 12-15.
The seniors also played ex-
hibition at Goderich last
week. Superb play between
the two teams was a preview
for what should be good
league action tomorrow.
South Huron won 3 of the 6
games. SH has been able to
beat Stratford Northwestern
in exhibition so Thursday's
matchups look promising.
The final weekend tourna-
ment was hosted by Glencoe
for the seniors and Forest for
the juniors. .
Far from top form the
juniors lost their games by
fairly low scores to Scits,
Forest, St. Pat's, Ingersoll,
Lucas, and St. Clair. Their on-
ly win came in the last game
against Glencoe.
At Glencoe the seniors,

Bud Richardson scored on a
power play on a three-way
passing combination with
George Pratt and Scott Lovie.
Tony McEwan registered
for St. Marys in the second
period.
Another power play produc-
ed the final goal for the
Generals in the third period.
Bud Richardson was again
the marksman. This time
Sean Whiteford and Scott
Lovie provided the passes.
Generals coach Ron Bogart
said his team outplayed St.
Marys in the last half of the
game but couldn't beat goalie
Paul Taylor who was "hot".
Bogart added, "We had the
chances, but, no goals."
In the third game, the first
period was very even with
each team scoring one goal in
a period which was described
by coach Bogart as "a good
period with lots of hitting and
good skating."
The Generals lost Al Pym
early in the game with a
broken collarbone and were
already missing Bill Fisher
because of bronchitis.
The only Exeter goal came
from the stick of Sean
Whiteford on a pass from
George Pratt. .
St. Marys outscored the
General 14 goals to three in
the OMHA playoffs. That was
quite a turnaround from the
regular schedule when the
Exeter club outscored St.
Marys 28 to 12 in four games.
