Bantams strong
in Lague play
The Exeter Legion ban-
tams played three strong
games in Shamrock league
play this week and came
away with a win, a loss and a
tie for their efforts.
Friday night in Lucan
Shawn Moore opened the
scoring with only 12 seconds
in the game to give Exeter the
early lead, but, goals by Jim
McLellan and John Miller
gave the hosts a 2-1 first
period lead.
Steve Lingard evened
things up on a pass from Jon
O'Connor early in the second
but Sandy Hyde scored to
restore Lucan's lead.
Bryan Quinn tied it for Ex-
eter on a pass from Dave
Russell seconds later.
Lucan scored three quick
goals by Mike Annis,
McLellan and Miller to take a
6-4 Lead into the third period.
In the final stanza O'Connor
scored on a pass from Jeff
Chipchase and Quinn gave
Exeter the 6-6 tie with an
unassisted effort:
• Monday night in Ilderton,
the locals spotted their hosts
a 1-0 lead on a goal by Glen
Marshall and then stormed
back for a 7-1 win.
Bryan Quinn and Jon
O'Connor led the offensive at-
tack with two goals each
while singles went to Mark
Coward, Tim Moore and Jeff
Hannah. Assists . were
registered by Quinn, Darryl
Bantams win
�n houseleague
The Exeter bantams scored
two victories this week in
regular houseleague hockey
play.
Wednesday, the Exeter
youngsters defeated Blyth by
a score of 7-2 and Saturday it
was a 4-1 win over Goderich.
Al Vanderlaan fired four
successful shots to lead his
team to the win over Blyth.
Scoring one goal apiece were
Pat Hartman and Angelo
Vilos.
Captain Shaun Forsythe
was the top playmaker with
three assists. Vilos and Rob
McKnight each helped on two
scores and Hartman, Brian
Watson and. Jeff Playfoot
each picked up one assist.
Al Vanderlaan with a two
goal effort was again the top
Exeter marksman in the win
over Goderich. Getting one
goal each were Steve Pym
and Jay Davison.
The only local assists were
compiled by Brian Watson
and Jeff Kints.
McCann, Dale Kints and Jeff
Dalrymple.
The only loss in the week's
play came Wednesday night
in St. Marys as the strong
home team skated off with a
4-1 win.
Exeter's only goal came off
the stick of Steve Lingard on
passes from Bryan Quinn and
Tim Moore.
Scott Heywood and Fred
Gregus shared the goalten-
ding duties and came up with
strong efforts particularly in
the St. Marys game when
they were called on to make
a number of big saves to keep
the game close.
Host Hawks tonight
Irish remain in
The Lucan Irish kept their
hopes of finishing in second
place alive In the OHA
Western Junior D league as
they trounced -life
Thamesford Trojans 8-1 and
played to a 5-5 tie with the
Tavistock Braves.
The Irish with three games
remaining in the regular
schedule have 31 points, one
more than the Tavistock
Braves. The Braves with five
games left have two in hand
over the Irish.
After the Irish play host to
the league leading Exeter
Hawks tonight, Wednesday at
the Lucan arena, they face
the Braves m a very impor-
tant contest in Tavistock,
Monday night. They finish the
schedule on February 8
against the 'Medford Browns.
In Tavistock Friday night,
John Medd scored on a power
play attempt at the halfway
mark of the third period to
assure the tie with the
Braves. It was his second goal
of the night and was set up by
Brent Bannerman and Lester
Arts.
The Irish started their scor-
ing the way they finished on
a power play. In the third
minute of the first period,
Lester Arts converted a pass.
Waxers enjoy
successful week
The Exeter Produce Wax-
ers had a successful weekend
as they downed Lucan twice;
6-5, 7-3, but lost to undefeated
Strathroy 7-1.
Joel Smith was the big gun
for Exeter Friday night as he
capitalized on crisp passing
and scored five goals with the
single going to Jeff Lingard.
Paul Charrette picked up two
assists with Jamie VanDam
and Steve Farquhar also help-
ing on the goals.
The Lucan scorers were:
Scott Smith and Paul O'Shea
with two and Mike Sleaford
with a single.
Saturday, Strathroy proved
too much for the hard work-
ing Waxers as they downed
the locals 7-1. Joel Smith
scored the lone Exeter goal
with Trevor Taylor picking up
Mohawks keep
on winning
The Exeter Mohawks with
the regular South Huron in-
termediate hockey league
regular championship
already wrapped up rolled on
this week.
. The Mohawks blanked the
Parkhill Pirates 841Thutsday
night at the South Huron Rec
Centre to run their season
record to 18 wins, one loss and
one tie in 20 starts.
With four games remaining
in the regular schedule, the
Mohawks will be in Hensall
tomorrow night Thursday to
take on the Sherwoods. Game
time is 8:30 p.m.
The forward lin* of Matt
Muller, Mark Cronyn and
Brian Mercer paced the
Mohawks to the shutout win
over Parkhill with a total of 12
points.
Muller was the top scorer
with a hat trick and he added
one assist. Cronyn was next
with two goals and the same
number of assists and Mercer
fired one successful shot and
assisted on three others.
The other two Exeter goals
came from the sticks of Tom
Ryan and playing coach Jitn
Guenther.
Wednesday night, the
Legion team opens a best of
five series against St. Marys

Farquhar scored his first of
three, eight seconds into the
game. Joel Smith and Jamie
VanDam drew the assist.
Smith added two of his own
with help from Paul Char-
rette and Steve Farquhar.

scored the other two goals
with the assists going to Ian
Jean, Sean McCann and
Jamie VanDam.
Mike Sleaford scored two
for Lucan with Paul O'Shea
adding the single.

Waxers were Joel Smith;

fashion were Brad Zehr,
Kevin Regier and Brad
Gerber.
In the 8-1 romp over
Thamesford, the Irish scored
half their output of goals in
the second period.
The scoring was well
spread around with seven dif-
ferent Irish firing at least one
successful shot. Captain Paul
Wraith started the game scor-
ing on a pass from Steve
Glenn as their club played
shorthanded and John Medd
registered on passes from
Brent Bannerman and Lester
Arts.
In the second period, Steve
Glenn, Todd Charlton, Mark
Bannon and Lester Arts were
the Lucan marksmen. Get-
ting assists were Paul Wraith,
Rob Hardy, Brad Hodgins
and Jeff Skinner.
In the third period, John
Medd notched his second
score of the night on passes
from Mark Bannon and
Lester Arts and Jamie
Shipley counted with assists
going to Brent Bannerman
and John Medd.
