Legion bantains get throe points
The Exeter Legion ban-
tams picked up three of a
possible four points in
Shamrock league play this
week.
Wednesday night at the rec
centre, the locals were held to
a 2-2 tie by Lucan. The
visitors opened the scoring
midway through the first
period Steve Gibb scored on
assists by Don Httgill and Ian
Craig. Bryan Quinn knotted
the count late in the second
period with an unassisted
marker.
Paul Mellecke gave Exeter
a shortlived lead early in the
third in a solo effort, but Craig
tied the score only 18 seconds
later, converting a pass from
Hugill.
Huron Cup set
for this weekend
The Huron Cup, a two day,
two event race series for both
snowmobiles and three -
wheeled ATV's, happens Sun-
day, January 22nd, and again
on Sunday, January 29th. The
first half of the series this
Sunday, January 22 features
drag racing for both
snowmobiles and ATV's.
Registration for the event is
Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.
with racing starting around
noon.
The Huron Cup will take
place at Hully Gully between
Clinton and Hensall, and this
marks another year of this
special double event series.
Some of the new
developments in this year's
drag racing is inclusion of the
"crate -stock" class.
Crate stock machines are
the same as they came off the
showroom floor, and are
designed to give budding
raters a chance to race
wilhout spending great sums.

Classes are designed so that
participants race against
equal machines, the only fac-
tors that come into play being
the state of the machines'
tune, and the skill of the rider.
Other stock classes, modified
classes and Open modified
classes as well as several
three-wheeler classes will
also run January 22.
The following Sunday,
January 29, the second half of
the Huron Cup, the Sno-Cross,
will be run for snowmobiles
and three-wheelers.
Snowcross is the snow
equivalent of motocross
where the participants race
over uneven terrain.
Included in the races will be
a special Tri -cross section, in
which three-wheelers will pit
themselves against Hully
Gully's Snowcross Race
Course.
Anyone wishing to race
may contact Hully Gully for
information on either half of
the Huron Cup, and spec-
tat0t's can look forward to an
excellent show.

Exeter Hawks vs Thedford Browns
Fred Gregus turned in a
strong performance in goal
for Exeter.
On Saturday in Goderich
the bantams turned in a
strong performance, downing
the host team 4-2 in a game
that featured 12 penalties to
Exeter against only six to
Goderich.
Exeter opened the scoring
in the first period when Jon
O'Connor connected on
passes from Steve Lingard
and Mark Coward. Bryan
Quinn scored with help from
Dale Kints early in the second
Kinsmen
win one,
In recent Shamrock midget
league action, the Exeter
Kinsmen Generals blanked
Lucan 6-0 and were defeated
6-4 and 7-3 by Goderich.
In the victory over Lucan,
Scott Lovie scored the first
three goals of the game with
George Pratt assisting on all
three, Bud Richardson pick-
ing up a pair of assists and Al
Pym helping on one score.
The other goals for the
Generals came from the
sticks of Sean Whiteford, cap-
tain Scott Bogart and Jeff
Pfaff. Terry Zachar gained
two assists and Jim Lewis
and Chris Tiedeman helped
on cne each.
In the? -3 loss to Goderich,
all Exeter goals came on
power plays while Goderich
scored the number of times
while playing shorthanded.
Sean Whiteford, Bud
Richardson and Steve Gould
were the Exeter goalgetters
while Gould picked up two
assists and Jeff Pfaff, Scott
Bogart and George Pratt
each helped set up one score.
Scoring was again well
spread for the Generals as
and the two goal lead held up
going into the third period.
After Byron Bowman
scored early in the third while
enjoying a two man• advan-
tage, Darryl McCann notched
the eventual game winner
when he fired home a pass
from Quinn. Coward also
assisted on the play.
Tim Moore scored on a long
shot from outside the blue -line
to sew up the win, before
David Duncan rounded out
the scoring for Goderich.
Gregus and Seott Heywood
shared the net -minding duties.
Generals
lose two
they lost 6-4 to the lakeport
crew. Getting one goal each
were Scott Bogart, Terry
Zachar, Dave Skea and
George Pratt. Assisting with
one each were. Sean
Whiteford, Steve Gould, Scott
Lovie and Bud Richardson.
In commenting on the vic-
tory over Lucan, coach Ron
Bogart said, "The whole team
played very well with good
skating and passing and
goalie Jason Van Haarlen
gave us excellent support to
get the shutout."
Bogart went on to say, "I
wish to apologize to the Ex-
eter Kinsmen. The team
wanted a name and after
several were suggested by the
players - "Generals" was
selected. The "Exeter
Kinsmen" still sponsor the
team. The name is still on the
back of all jerseys. As coach
I thank you for your support
of the sponsorship and I invite
you to come out and see the
boys play. We would ap-
preciate your support and I
hope you would be proud of
the team you sponsor."

Mohawks continue streak with two more victories
The Exeter Mohawks con-
tinued their winning ways in
the South Huron intermediate
hockey league as they
defeated the Centralia Col-
lege Saints 10-4 Thursday
night and the Zurich
Buckeyes 13-8 Sunday
afternoon.
The next action for the
Mohawks is tomorrow night
Thursday when they play host
to the strong Hensall Sher -
woods at the South Huron Rec
Centre. Game time is 8:30
p.m.
In Thursday's win over the
CCAT Saints, leading the
Mohawks with two goals
apiece were Jack Chipchase,
Dave Jackson and Matt
Muller.
Chipchase, called "down"
from the Molting Hawks was
filling in for the injured Steve
Pfaff.
Scoring in single fashion for
the Mohawks were Barry
Baynham, Jim Guenther,
Dave Atthill and Brian
Blackburn.
The College, successful
shots were fired by Rob
Deloyer, Pete Tevin, Randy
Sol and Wade Gridler.
Doug Fairbairn played a
strong game in goal for the
Mohawks.
In Zurich Sunday, the
Mohawks clinched the verdict
on the strength of eight
straight goals in the first 13
minutes of play in the second
period. •
The Buckeyes jumped in
front by a 3-2 score after the
first 20 minutes of play.
Pete Gil, Steve Languille
and Daryl Postill counted for
Zurich in the opening session.
Ron Rader assisted on two
goals and Rick Moody, Mar-
vin Merner and Wayne Thiel
each picked up one assist.
Brian Mercer notched the
first Exeter score on a pass
from Barry Baynham and
combined with Mark Cronyn
to set up Brian Taylor for the
second. •
In the middle frame, Tom
Ryan scored three times for
the Mohawks to pace the
quick eight goal outburst. One
was on an unassisted effort
and Jim Guenther and Brian
Blackburn assisted on the
others.
Playing coach Jim Guen-
ther and Rick Funston each
hit the Zurich net on two oc-
casions. Funston drew assists'
on both goals by the coach
and he was helpe¢on.his scor-
ing efforts by Tom .Ryan and
Jeff Fuller.
The other Exeter second
period markers were notched
by Mark Cronyn and Brian
Mercer. Barry Baynham
assisted on both while Cronyn
and Brian Taylor each rain-
ed one assist.

the necessary passes.
In the third period each
team scored a pair of goals.
For the Buckeyes Travis
Postill hit on an unassisted ef-
fort and Ron Rader scored on
a three-way passing combina-
tion with Wayne Thiel and
Marvin Merner.
The Exeter scores came on
three-way efforts. It was
Barry Baynham from Brian
Mercer and Brian Taylor and
Brian Blackburn on passes
from Tom Ryan and Jim

Senior, cagers
South Huron's senior boys
basketball team fared well in
an exhibition game played in
Exeter. The Panthers
defeated Clarke Road a top-
notch team from London
rated third best in WOSSA.
Throughout most of the first
period of the game, the teams
were running neck and neck,
emerging out of the first
games with a South Huron
having the edge over a 10-9
score. Clarke Road came
back to close the half with a
21-19 lead.
South Huron played an ex-
clusively strong third quarter,
holding Clarke Road back to
only six points. The Panthers
fought hard and came out of
the period 14 points stronger.
South Huron was now in first
place with a 33-27 lead.
In the last period, the two
teams again seemed to be at
a stand-off but South Huron
came out with a 44-41 victory.
John Mol led scoring with a
strong 19 points. Brent Atthill
scored 12 points in an equally
impressive display.
The junior boys did not fare
as well in their game against
the junior squad from Clarke
