Those are the four color
categories devised by Carole.

which have sprung up like
mushrooms all over North

One man in our area was so
upset after his colorconsulta-

say thanks
Dear Sir:
This is an open letter to the
residents of Exeter and area.
Christmas Eve and
Christmas Day 1983 will
always be remembered as
something special by this
Smith family in London. .
We were five of about 40
people who found themselves
stranded in Exeter rom 3
p.m. Christmas EN/until
noon Christmas Day.
"Stranded" doesn't seem like
the proper word, though. We
were ..."stranded", but I
doubt that stranded families
are supposed to receive the
sort of kind, courteous,
thoughtful attention that Dan,
Matthew, Ellen and Kathy
and I were blessed 'with.
We have so many people to
say 'Thanks' to:
Reg McDonald, and Dean,
Jim, 'Hart' and all those peo-
ple whose names I didn't get
to hear at the Exeter branch
of The Royal Canadian
Legion. You helped to turn
what was shaping up like the
worst Christmas ever into a
rather joyful experience with
a lot of new friends. We thank
you for keeping us warm.
sheltered and well fed (not to
mention entertained!) for this
period. By the way, Dan's 3,
and now he's the best shuf-
fleboard player in the family!
Fran and Bruce Shaw, and
their sons Dave and Bruce
Jr.: Thanks to all of you for
sharing your great family
feeling with ours. The
Christmas meal was beautiful
and all the other 'goodies'
made us feel pretty lucky.
Work on your Sports Trivial
Pursuit, and we'll give you a
rematch...when the
temperature's 25 or so! c Ex-
eter'sMayor and his family
are exceptional people!)
The owner of the Burkley
Restaurant: I wish I had ask-
ed for your name...you and
your staff provided great hot
chocolate and coffee and
meals, but it was your warm,
friendly courtesy that I'll
always recall.
Finally...the Exeter
Detachment of the All
shifts! I'm sure it was a tough
time for all of you. Weather,
constant phone calls about the
same thing, dangerous driv-
ing conditions, and on, and
on...Each time I talked with
one of your staff. or visitied
the office I received nothing
but friendly advice, kind, im-
mediate attention, and the ex-
act information 1 needed.
Dealing with people who all
have their own special needs,
especially at Christmastime,
cannot be very easy when the
weather is perfect. With the
conditions that prevailed this
Christthas, well.. .You are all
to be commended!' Surely
Rudyard Kipling had many of
you in mind and heart wheh
he wrote "If you can keep
your head when all about you
are losing theirs . and blam-
ing it on you.. "
We have been think-
ing...everryone should ex-
perience a Christmas like this
one just past. It really renews'
one's faith in his fellow man
and woman.
Exeter: Be assured that
you are regarded as very
special. You, collectively, put
the needs of others before
your own...and that's a
Christmas gift we 'others'
shall remember...every
Christmas!
Thank you again!
Barry Smith.

she phoned, "Guess what,
I've just had my colors
done!" Next time I saw her,
she still looked like a dowdy
teddy bear....but in the right
colors, of course. My point is,
it takes more than becoming
colors to make a woman (or
man) appear chic. We all
know those lucky ones who
can belt on a gunny sack and
look marvellous.
Another friend of mine was
once invited to a gala affair
but couldn't afford a new
gown. We scrounged around
until we found a few yards of
left over drapery? Sewing up
some seams, we pulled it in
with a wide sash, and she

the Dashwood club to the

meeting was carried. This
meeting will be in the form of
a pot luck dinner at 12:30.
Members were asked to bring
extra lunch for the guests.
February 6.
The constitution and by-
laws for our club were read
and accepted. Two birthdays
were recorded and greetings
extended. A letter was read
by the secretary from Arden
McGill requesting volunteer
help for the group home on
Huron Street. Anyone in-
terested please contact

The -remainder of the after-
noon was spent playing bingo.
Some members went to
Crediton to call on Bernice
and Hubert Cooper who were
celebrating their 50th
anniversary.
A
Queen of Sheba. The same
outfit on me would have look-
ed like just what it
was...somebody's left over
curtains. On her it was ter-
rific because she had the face
and figure and that certain
flair some people have, for
wearing clothes.
Of course, I'm really just -
too stubborn or perverse to
have my colors done. It would
be an admission I didn't have
the sense to know what looks
good on me. Mind you, l have
to admit, I view interior
decorators in the same light.
I think they're terrific for
other people, but if I let onV
decorate my house, I'd feel
I'd been cheated out of the en-
joyment of doing it myself.
There is another reason,
too. Almost every night, when
I watch the news on TV, some
refugee child stares out at
me, hungry and tattered. I
know she wouldn't care what
color it was, providing she
just had something warm to
wear. So, for me, at least,
spending money to discover
what color looks good on me
while some child freezes for
lack of clothing, just doesn't
sit right. That's how it seems
to me, anyway.
