Late in 1982, The South Huron
Hospital Foundation Incorporated
was established to comply with a
new provincial funding policy which
stipulates the first priority must be
operating costs.
Through the foundation, a capital
fund will be built up from contribu-
tions and gifts for the purchase of
equipment and other needs.
Births decline
In the early part of the hospital's
history, it averaged just over 300
births per year. Since 1964 there has
been a steady decrease in babies,
probably due, in geat part, to the Pill
and smaller families.
1965 saw 248 births; 1970 had
166. By the late 1970's, births at
South Huron were down to well
below 100 until by 1981 they had
dropped to 60. However, the
number resurged to 82 in 1982. This
year; so far, there have been 33 births
and three post delivery admissions.
R.C.A.F. WIVES AUXIUARY of Centralia Training Base were among the first
to contribute a donation to the hospital association. Receiving their cheque
is R.N. Creech, chairman of the original finance committee.

RNA classes
Continued from page 23
that several of 'her girls' are still on
staff at South Huron. These include
Theresa Parsons, Bev Moir, Ethel
Cushman, Marion Snider, Marion
Cornish, Cathy McCarthy and
Marlene Turnbull, Judy McLeod,
Jane Harvey and Marlene and Ber-
nice Martin.
So despite the fact the RNA
courses were discontinued at the
hospital when they were taken river
by certified colleges in the province
in 1974, South Huron still reaps the
benefit, as do many hospitals
throughout Canada where other
graduates help and care for the sick.
