Times-Advocate, 1983-11-09, Page 36Founding members honored
While it would be impossi-
ble to list, or even remember,
the hundreds of people who
worked on committees, col-
lected for the cavasses, or
helped in innumerable other
ways to insure that a hospital
would be built in Exeter, a pia-
que has been struck to honor
the founding members of the
original hospital association.
Those names are: Elmer D.
Bell, Q.C., chairman; Luther
Penhale, vice chairman;
Richard Creech, treasurer;
Ulric Snell, chairman of
building committee; W.G.
Cochrane, Harper C. Rivers,
W. Eric Mcllroy, H.C. Beaver,
Chas. S. MacNaughton,
William Ellerington, Elgin
Rowcliffe, Benson Tuckey, J.

New wing increased hospital beds
In just a few years, conditions were
' already crowded and made it im-
perative for the board to construct a
new wing on the east side. It open-
ed, June 25, 1961, and provided
four, four -bed wards, bringing total
capacity to 52 adult patients. The
new wing also included a solarium,
medicine room, treatment quarters,
conference room and storage. In the
full basement, the board provided for
a record library, a Targe board room,
laboratory, locker rooms, laundry
receiving room and small kitchen.
This time, Hon. Matthew Dymond,
MD, Ontario Minister of Health, was
the guest speaker at the opening, and
Mrs. R.N. Creech cut the ribbon.
THE EAST WING was added in June, 1961. It provided 16 more beds, a solarium, medicine room, conference room,
treatment quarters and storage facilities. -
