stitute was held October 4 at
the Masonic Hall. In the
absence of the president,
Nancy Harmer, first vice-
president Lorna Priestley
took over the duties, and
assistance secretary, Lor-
raine Neil acted in the
absence of secretary
Margaret Wilson
With Jean Lee at the piano,
the meeting opened with 0
Canada, the Institute Ode and
Mary Stewart Collect. The
response to the roll call, I am
thankful for --- made
everyone realize the many
things for which they are
thankful that they sometimes
take for granted. They had a
good turnout of members and
four visitors present.
Lorna read a letter from the
Arthritic Society which was in
turn discussed.
A thank you letter from
Craigholme gratefully
acknowledged cookies sent
by the Institute in September.
An invitation from Cloverdale
Institute to join them October
26 was gladly accepted.
Evelyn McNaughton had
charge of the program and
Ruby McLean read Psalm
100. This psalm which is one
of thankful, joy and praise to
God fitted nicely the motto.
Evelyn and her committee,
Olive Currie and Ruby
McLean gave a good program
on the motto, Be Thankful.
Evelyn began by telling us
why Canada is such a great
country with its many
benefits and why so many
people want to live here and
make Canada their home.
Olive and Ruby replied alter-
nately, to questions asked by
the convener by using each
letter in the motto. This was
much enjoyed by all.
Olive gave a paper about
Agri -Food Week and what it
means. There was an ex-
cellent display of all kinds of
fruits and vegetables as well
as the new grain product,
"triticale" and the flour made
from it. Also a big display of
peanuts to illustrate "Nutri-
tion in a Nutshell".
- Evelyn proceeded to tell us
about their trip to James
Picard processing plant. We
were each given samples of
four types of peanuts, also
samples of tasty boiled
peanuts, peanut butter, salted
and unsalted peanuts.
Evelyn, Olive and Ruby
kept everyone busy sampling
these peanuts while they were
