SUMMERS Members of Granton Wellburn Women's Institute were invited to help Prospect Hill celebrate their 60th an- niversary on August 29. Former members and charter members were guests. President Mrs. Ruth Bryan welcomed everyone and in- troduced the head table. Following the banquet a program of enterthinment was enjoyed, this was provid- ed by a musical trio, con- sisting of Mrs. Wilbur Facey, auto harp, Mrs. George Picket, violin and Miss Edith Facey, piano accompanist. The last item on the program was a hilarious skit by Pro- pect Hill WI members. Mrs. Betty Anne Mollard, Provincial Board member brought greeting, also Mrs. Joe Reilly, area chairman, also Mrs. Velma Rite:ire, Pro- vincial secretary and a number of members at large brought greetings from their various institutes. Mrs. John Dunnell had compiled an interesting ac- count of the many historic events that had taken place in the past 60 years, to name one project was a cookbook that was put out on 1927 at the time of the Diamond Jubilee of Confederation and believe it or not the price was only 60 cents. Another project was, instead of taking Christmas dinners to shutins, it was decided to take them at Thanksgiving. This proved very successful. Church news At Granton United Church the Rev. The workers at the Ailsa Craig Ciba-Geigy plant held a wine and cheese party and presented the bride and groom with a gift. He told the children a story and they all stayed at the front for the Sunday School presentation. The sermon was en- titled "Souls are mended in many wave " The holiday we know as Labour Day resulted from the activities of people at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. It was intended that workers everywhere would have al least one com- mon day each year as a holi- day from the work place. Unfortunately the general holiday aspect of Labour Day has been eroded because of stores and other businesses remaining open on this holiday. T -A photo Hold Open House Cromarty man celebrates 80 years By MRS. ROBERT LAING Congratulations to Otto Walker who celebrated his 80th birthday recently. Sun- day afternoon his family entertained many friends and relatives at an open house in his honour. Tom and Muriel Scott have returned home after spending a few days with Hugh and Mary Moore, Lindsay. While there, they attended the Decoration Services at the cemetery where their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Moore are buried. Lillian Douglas and Margaret Miller were part of a busload of ladies who spent a day in the Windsor area. Charlie and Lillian Douglas spent Sunday in the Orangeville area •where Lillian lived as a young girl. Several from, this com- munity attended a shower for Sheila Riley whose marriage to Jeffrey Corbett takes place this month. The shower was held Monday morning in Hen- sall United Church. Scott Zimmer, Stratford, holidayed last week with his grandparents, Bob and Ruth Laing. Tom Laing spent the holi- day weekend in Toronto with his brother, Andrew, and at- tended the Blue Jay -Detroit ball game and CNE. Regular church services were resumed in Cromarty Church. Sunday.
