A farewell and birthday
party was held for 14 -year-old
Kevin Sweeney on Sunday
August 21 at the cottage of his
grandparents, Mozart and
Marie Gelinas, Sr. and given
by his parents, Butch and
Marion Sweeney of Vanastra
with family members on both
the Schroeder and Sweeney
sides attending. A delicious
smorgasbord supper was en-
joyed by all.
Kevin will soon be Leaving
for Regina Mundi boarding
school in London for his grade
nine education.
Congratulations to Ed and
Lottie Gascho who celebrated
their 50th wedding anniver-
sary on Friday with a
delicious roast beef dinner
and all the trirntnings as the
Dominion Tavern and Dining
Room with 36 relatives in at-
tendance. A get-together
followed at the home of their
daughter and son-in-law
Betty -Ann and Doug O'Brien.
Several relatives from town
attended the' Golden Jubilee
celebration at the Pines Ur-
suline Convent, Mother -House
in Chatham last weekend.

were present in honour of
Theresa's two sisters, Sister
Priscille and Sister Rosalie
Ducharme. Harold and
Doreen Dietrich attended the
Silver .Jubilee for her niece,

two former school teachers
known to many in this area,

their Golden .Jubilee.

enjoyed a nice evening and
lunch after the opening of
gifts.
Little Erin Theresa Penn-
ings, daughter of Debbie and
Gerry Pennings, was baptiz-
ed on Sunday August 21 at St.
Boniface by Fr. Mooney with
god -parents being Rita and
Brian Kennedy of Lamtieth.

bass caught during a five-
hour fishing derby the day

campers entered in the derby.

several we caught later Steve
and Marron Kreuter camped
with us for 10 days, and
Steve's parents and his
sister's family on an adjoin-
ing site for a week Barry and
Pat Taylor. Steven. (:reg and
Brent spent last week in camp
and had good luck fishing.
Bob Webster has added
brown steel siding to his
garage on the corner. With its
white trim and the shrubs he
planted, it hooks pretty neat.
The final joint church ser-
vice of the summer is in Var

The Varna Peewee girls
played in a round robin hall
tournament in Auburn last
weekend. losing against
Londesboro and ffolmesville,
and winning (heir games with

summer is drawing to a close.
A good indication of that is the
Zurich Bean Festival which
will take place on Saturday,
August 27th. Visitors to the
area are invited to come to
the }testilome, browse
around, and renew old
acquaintances.
On Tuesday evening, the
August birthday party was
sponsored by the ladies of
Zurich Mennonite Church.
The children of the Sunday
School provided the musical
program. Residents
celebrating birthdays during
the month and receiving bir-
thday gifts, courtesy of the
Ladies Auxiliary were: Mrs.
Ferne Armitage, Mrs. Rose
Butler, Mrs. Bertha Cor-
riveau, Mrs. Valeda Cor-
