A farewell and birthday party was held for 14 -year-old Kevin Sweeney on Sunday August 21 at the cottage of his grandparents, Mozart and Marie Gelinas, Sr. and given by his parents, Butch and Marion Sweeney of Vanastra with family members on both the Schroeder and Sweeney sides attending. A delicious smorgasbord supper was en- joyed by all. Kevin will soon be Leaving for Regina Mundi boarding school in London for his grade nine education. Congratulations to Ed and Lottie Gascho who celebrated their 50th wedding anniver- sary on Friday with a delicious roast beef dinner and all the trirntnings as the Dominion Tavern and Dining Room with 36 relatives in at- tendance. A get-together followed at the home of their daughter and son-in-law Betty -Ann and Doug O'Brien. Several relatives from town attended the' Golden Jubilee celebration at the Pines Ur- suline Convent, Mother -House in Chatham last weekend. Mrs. Theresa Hartman and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Farwell were present in honour of Theresa's two sisters, Sister Priscille and Sister Rosalie Ducharme. Harold and Doreen Dietrich attended the Silver .Jubilee for her niece, Sister Mary Theresa Mahoney, and visited with two former school teachers known to many in this area, Sister Mary Doreen Drouillard and Sister Jean- Marie who also celebrated their Golden .Jubilee. Congratulations to Mark and Theresa Van Bree 'nee Van Raay ! who were married on Saturday at SI. Boniface ('hurch by Fr- 1looney with dinner and reception held at The Legion in Exeter. Theresa is the daughter of Case and Annie Van Raay ) On return from a honeymoon to Quebec the couple will he living in Forest. Gysbert and Wilma DeKlerk and son from Holland are presently visiting for two weeks with his sister, Annie Van Raay and family and attended their niece's wedding on Saturday. Members of the (M.Y.F. ) MennoniteYouth Fellowship enjoyed a hay ride on Satur- day evening and had a pro- gressive supper - going around to various houses for different courses of their meals. • Abridal shower was held at the Township Hall on Friday for Charmaine Staples, fiancee of Larry Keller. All enjoyed a nice evening and lunch after the opening of gifts. Little Erin Theresa Penn- ings, daughter of Debbie and Gerry Pennings, was baptiz- ed on Sunday August 21 at St. Boniface by Fr. Mooney with god -parents being Rita and Brian Kennedy of Lamtieth. Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to George'Regier who returned home from the hospital on the weekend and to Mrs. Belle Merner.' Andrew and Alida Rau spent the weekend in Chatham with their son and daughter-in-law Terry and Idelen Rau_ Welcometo Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chennell from. Florida have been visiting for the month of August with several relatives in the Zurich area. Correction - Mrs. Annie Finkbeiner is a great- grandmother. and not a great -great grandmother as reported last week. She says she is old, but not that old.. A good indication of that is the Zurich Bean Festival which will take place on Saturday, August 27th. Visitors to the area are invited to come to the }testilome, browse around, and renew old acquaintances. On Tuesday evening, the August birthday party was sponsored by the ladies of Zurich Mennonite Church. The children of the Sunday School provided the musical program. Residents celebrating birthdays during the month and receiving bir- thday gifts, courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary were: Mrs. Ferne Armitage, Mrs. Rose Butler, Mrs. Bertha Cor- riveau, Mrs. Valeda Cor- riveau, Mrs. Hazel Coward.
