hold family picnic

Granton W.I. members,
their family and friends en-
joyed a picnic in the park
Wednesday afternoon.
Follotving a pot luck lunch a
short business meeting took
place, Mrs. Clarence Lewis
presided and opened with the
W.I. Ode, and Mary Stewart
Collect.
Mrs. Olive Gowen district
president was welcomed,
some items of business was
taken care of.
A short program was en-
joyed with readings and con-
tests. Everyone present
agreed it had been an en-
joyable afternoon.
Farewell party for
Prospect Hill resident
Friends and neighbours
met at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Doug Brown, to honor
Mrs. Tom Gagan a long time
resident of Prospect Hill, who
with her husband Tom was a
former restaurant owner
there.
Approximately 50 people at-
tended the party, which was
held Friday evening.
Neighbours presented her
with a complete bathroom
set, shower curtain, bath mat,
towels, etc. She also received
other gifts from friends.
Mrs. Gagan is moving to an
apartment in Lucan, to be
near her husband who is a
resident of Strathmere Lodge
in Strathroy.
Doug Brown gave a speech
and also introduced two new
families who had moved into
the area. Cecil and Ruby
Hillier and sons Doug and
Steve; and Harry and Robin
Bage and daughters Lori and
Cheryl.
At the Granton United
Church the Rev. Bruce Pierce
conducted the worship Sun -
"day. The minister welcomed
the members of St. Thomas
Anglican Church who were
sharing in the service.
Rev. Pierce entitled his ser-
mon "Vanity and Promises"
his text was taken from the
second lesson Ecelesiastes
1:11-15. When we have pro-
blems we should not worry
and try to solve them
ourselves, we should take
them to God in prayer and
leave to Him to solve.

Jane Kerr of Mississauga,
15 -year-old granddaughter of
Mrs. James Kerr and the late
James Kerr, who won three
silver medals and a fourth
ribbons for swimming events
at the Pan Am Games in
Venezuela Caracas this
weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim 13akker
and Mr. and Mrs. Peta Bak-
ker have returned home after
spending a ten day holiday in
13ritish Columbia.
