Then we write a letter to Santa telling him what we'd like for Christmas. Then we bake cookies and get milk. Next we wrap pre- sents for Mom and Dad. After we put on the most comfortable p j.'s we have and put everything under the tree. After that, we all go outside and sprinkle reindeer food on our lane because the reindeers eat it while they are waiting for Santa. Later we read the book: "The Night Before Christmas". After that we go to bed. Then we wake up and open all the presents. And then we go to church. The Spirit of Christtnas By Lauren jingo, Gr. 4 Hensel Peddie k & Hi. my name is "Tiny lIm" and I am going to tell you about my first Christmas. It was a cold night. We were sitting around the tree. We opened presents and then' we had supper and went to bed. In the morning we had breakfast, then we got all our presents and went home. It is fun to get presents. She was sitting with her friend, Susan Maxwell, in the cafeteria at her, 11, having a snack. , ` ^: : their plans for the Christmas holidays. The 3:30 .bell rang and they walked home together because they lived beside each other. They had sort of a tradi- tion going on since they were kids. They would go to the local homeless shel- ter and work in the soup kitchen. They did this because they .had a favourite person there. His name was Jimdiy Smith. They felt that he was the funniest guy alive and he was the only rea- son they wanted to help out. He wasn't someone that they liked as a boyfriend. After all, he was more than five times their age and not the best looking in the crowd, but he was the nicest guy in the world. Every year when everyone had their food and most people had left, Andrea would go with Susan and they would go and sit beside Jimmy. They would talk for hours and hours. They only got to see him once a year at Christmas time so they looked forward to seeing him. As they were walking home from school, Susan asked Andrea, "So, what time are we heading down to the shelter tomorrow?" "About 5:00 I think. We'll walk down this year." "Okay," said Susan. They both walked to their own homes and shouted. ?!" to each other. The next day the girls could hardly wait to see Jimmy. They headed down to the shelter at about 4:30 to see if Jimmy had arrived early. The time passed quickly and it was now after 6:00 and still no sign of Jimmy. Andrea approached some- one who usually came into the shelter with Jimmy and asked, "Hey Jake! Do you know where Jimmy is?" He gave her an odd look and turned away with a sad face. He mumbled something under his breath. Andrea couldn't hear so she asked, * was that! I didr. and." He look( id said, "He died a few days ago. He wasn't a healthy man and..." His voice trailed off and Andrea ran out the door in tears. Andrea ran all the way to the treehouse in her back yard. She sat up there for a long time cry- ing and thinking, "If I could have just one wish this Christmas, I want to see Jimmy one last time." She climbed down and started walking towards her house and then, sud- denly, she fell to her knees and yelled with everything she had inside, "Why? Why?" As she yelled this she slowly dropped with her face to' the ground. She got up a short time later and saw an extremely bright light coming from the front of her house. At first she thought it was a street light but it started to get brighter. She was amazed and at the same time, confused. She walked around to the front of the house and was astounded. It was Jimmy! How was this possible? Jimmy was dead. She, oked up at Jimmy an id, "I'm going to miss you so much after tonight." "Nn you won't," said Jimmy. Andrea looked confused and asked, "Why not?" Jimmy said, "Whenever you need to talk to me just close your eyes and think to yourself what it is that you want to say to me and you will see me." Jimmy disappeared and so did the choir. She saw Susan and they walked back to the shelter togeth- er side by side. So every year, the Browns and the Maxwells eat Christmas dinner together. They even set an extra spot at the table for their very special friend, Jimmy Smith. Who is Santa Claus? By Jasmyne Ferguson, Gr. 4 Mt. Carmel School I would love to see you but who are you?
