The South Huron juniors beat Goderich 37-27 at home on Friday. Coach Nicole Kovats said her team played an "an exceptional game on defence." The Panthers led the entire game thanks to ter- rific rebounding and foul shooting by Nikki Cyr who sand eight of 12 free throws in the first half and finished the game with 12 points. Jillian Jones added 13 points and Alicia Bugyra had four points. The juniors will host Clinton St. Anne's today (Nov. 17) at 2 p.m. to decide who are the Huron champions. The senior Panthers lost their semi-final to Goderich 32-14 on Friday. Coach Terry O'Rourke said his team played well but faced a much bigger opponent. Jessica Davies led the way with six points. O'Rourke had special thanks for Meaghan O'Rourke, Marilou Hern and Jamie Reaburn who all played their final game for South. Huron. The midgets lost their semi-final at home to St. Anne's 43-24 on Monday. The team turned things around versus Clinton Central Huron in the third place game to win 74-19. Tabitha Tuininga led the way With 14 points while Denise Ritchie and Chantelle Elder scored 10 and Jamie Darling added nine. All three Panther teams played their last regular season games on Nov. 10 at St. Anne's. The seniors played what O'Rourke called a "superb game" but still fell short with a 25-20loss. Jessica Davies led the Panther attack with six points followed by Alaina Hern and Melissa Prout with three points each. Krista Tuininga, Sherri Leveck and Dana Thiel each had two points. The seniors finished the regular season in fourth place behind Goderich, Madill and St. Anne's respectively. All Panther junior play- ers played well in defeat- ing St. Anne's 36-19. First place was on the line as St. Anne's was only a win away from the top spot. The Panthers came out ready to play and led from the start. Good passing and aggressive defence allowed the team to pull away in the second half. Cyr led the scoring with 13 points with Jones adding six points, Danielle Knip five and Buryra four, South Huron finished the regular season in first place in front of St. Anne's, Central Huron, Goderich, Madill and Seaforth (the last two out of the playoffs). The midgets also played well but couldn't finish and lost to St. Anne's 38- 19. Coach Nicole Kovats said good defensive efforts were put in by Chantelle Elder, Denise Ritchie and Jamie Darling. Irish luck continues with seven consecutive wins Continued from page 23 Geoffrey again (from McTavish, Farquhar). The score was 1-1 after the first period and 7-1 for Mount Brydges after the second. The shots were 33-32 for the Bulldogs. The Hawks finished the week with a 6-5 win at Belmont. For the fourth straight game Exeter spotted the home team two goals before the Hawks could spread their wings. Scoring for the Hawks were Vanbergen (from Farquhar, Heikkinen), McTavish (Heikkinen, Vanbergen), Geoffrey (Jeffrey, Chris Chatterson), Geoffrey again (SH, Bourne), Glover (Christian Stuckless) and McTavish again (Miller, Chatterson). Friyia noted he coached Bomber players Andy Manna and Jeff Northey while in London. Manna scored four points (2 G, 2 A) in the game. The Hawks remain at .500 with a 9-9 record. Friyia planned for the team to have a light practice yesterday after press ' before this Friday's home game versus Parkhill North Middlesex at South Huron Rec Centre starting at 8:30 p.m. Lucan's other game Last week had them at Parkhill on Saturday for a rescheduled game. Lucan won 4-2, the Last goal an empty netter. Bourne said his team is on track and healthy. "We're just in a steady mode right now with everyone contributing," he said.
