Panther Profile
Hello and welcome to the Panther Profile. This past
week has been an excellent one here at South Huron!
The students at the school came through for a charity
in a big way. The Student Impact Group sent out a
request for the students. to donate shoe boxes filler)
with little toys, hygiene items and candy to send to less
fortunate countries in South America. The response
was tremendous! We brought in, just under 400 shoe
boxes.Good work South Huron.

marily of grade. tens and a few other
people mixed in. This is their debut
so come out and support the Music
Department on Sun., Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.

News From St.Anne's
by PHILIP ). MCMILUN
The leaves of autumn are almost gone and amid sun-
shine and leafless, trees we again returned to
cenotaphs to honour those who gave their lives so
that we might live in peace. I was at the Clinton
cenotaph ceremony with the Co -Prime ministers
from St. Anne's with other schools and many, local
individuals and groups. The ceremony was digni-
fied and quite moving. I was struck by the fact
that all ages were present. There were three chil-
dren from the Co -Op Daycare who walked up the
hedge row to placetheir wreath and all stood and
watched hoping that in their lifetime -they would
never have to add to the list of those who made
such a supreme sacrifice. I always feel, so grateful
that so many men and women fought to create a
world like welive in. The peace they gave has
almost become taken for granted and in a way ft
speaks of the security and peace we enjoy.
Through the two minutes of silence leaves fell
unceremoniously to the ground and blew away
and I thought of lives lost but not forgotten. At
schools across the province Remembrance Day
ceremonies told the story and helped to ensure
that the past will not be forgotten. At St. Anne's,
Ms. Tigani and fellow staff, along with many tal-
ented students, reminded us how precious peace is
in a moving and meaningful way.
The new Provincial Report ,Card went out on
Friday, and parents of Grade Nine students only,
are reminded to complete all page two portions

Principal's message
We need your help. As we start to get ready
for our visits and discussions.
with this year's grade 8's we
need to prepare some promo-
tional materials for our school
that explain all the reasons why
a parent would want to send
their son or daughter to South
Huron D.H.S. next September.
A list of those reasons might DEB
begin by talking about
* a 50 year history of academic HOMUTH
PRINCIPAL'S
excellence MESSAGE
* a richogram of extra cur-
ricular a ties that includes more sports
teams th any other school in the area,
drama, music and visual arts
clubs, special interest clubs
* a full range of big shop tech
* a ratio of computers to kids of approxi-
mately 1:3
* a fully equipped, modern facility in a small
town, neighbourhood setting
* a full-service special education program
offering specialized programming
for the full range of special needs students
And so on. Public high schools have under-
sold themselves for too long so this territory is
relatively new for us. It's not that we don't
have anything to say. As that ' short list indi-
cates we do; rather, we don't do a very good
job of promoting our strengths. In the next
few weeks our promotional material will be
prepared for the printers. I would like to work
with a group of students, parents, and staff to
plan and develop those materials. If you have
interest or expertise in this area, please give
me a call at the school so we can •get started
right away.
In closing, I wanted to let our wider school
community know what a wonderi`ul job our
students did of last week's Remembrance Day
assembly. •
The program involved the presentation of the
colours by members of our Legion, the presen-
tation of a timeline of significant events from
this century involving Canada's Armed
Services and peacekeepers, a musical and dra-
matic presentation of Flanders Fields, two
musical presen'tations, and the two minute
wave of silence. For me, the `most powerful
moment was .at the end of the program when
40 of our senior boys presented the names of
those from our school who lost their lives in
combat. Watching our 40 young men, repre-
senting them, reminded me again. of how
young those other 40 young men were and
what an incredible sacrifice it was. I know our
students see that a little more clearly now and
feel their connection. a little more deeply. It
remains so important that we help kids under-
stand and "remember"; They did that last
week so well. You would have been so proud
of them.
and return them to the school in the next few
days. Parent's night was Tuesday, November 16th
and if you were unable to make it to the school
please contact the school to make alternate
arrangements to speak with your student's teach-
ers. The new report format has been used for all
grade levels at St. Anne's. Parents of Grade 10 to
OAC students are asked to disregard the columns
labeled as Learning Skills. This applies to the new
assessment models created along with the new
curriculum. The second clarification is that the
course median shown is in fact a class median for
the specific class or section your student is
enrolled in . The third area which may cause some
confusion is the area of the total number of class}
es. The total number should read. 48 classes how-
ever, if the student transferred sections or entered
the course Iate the number will reflect the total
number of classes attended since the transfer.
Times late will show how many times the student
has arrived, to class late and show which class the
late applies to. If there are any questions please
attach a note to the grade nine response form, ,or
if it applies to grade 10 to OAC students, attach
the note to the half page, purple signature form
that should be signed by the parent or guardian
and returned to the home room teacher early this
week. I am sure than all concerns can be cleared
up to parent's satisfaction.
