November 10, 1999 Community Wreaths and crosses laid in honour at Hensall cenotaph Sy Liz Sanpter HENSALL CORRESPOND Orr HENSALL - On November 7, Legion and Auxiliary members of Branch 468 held a short parade to Carmel Presbyterian Church, the host church for the Remembrance Day ser- vice. The service was con- ducted by Tracy -Annette Whitson-Bahro and Pirie Mitchell. They were joined afterwards by, the Scouts, Guides, Brownies and Sparks for a memorial service at the cenotaph to pay tribute to our fallen comrades. The Ladies Auxiliary served refreshments at the Legion after the ser- vice. A two -minute wave of silence in Hensall on November 11 will reflect the sacrifice made in the Going once, twice, sold! The Exeter Public School Parents Association raised $4,000 at the Time,Talent and Treasure Auction Nov. 2.The funds will contribute to the purchase of new playground equipment. Most of the school's equipment has been deemed unsafe and has been removed.With no funding available from the Avon Maitland District School Board, the school is responsible for raising the funds.The student council has already raised $3,500 for the project through magazine sales. Upcoming fund- raising events include muvie nights, cookbook sales and other activities.All the items at last week's auction were donated by parents and businesses. On November 11 a Remembrance Day ban- quet will be held at the Hensall and District Community Centre. Guest speaker will be Ken Passmore, a World War II bomber pilot and former Hensall native. There will be a social hour at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Dinner tickets are $10 per person. On November 20 there will be a Solo tournament and turkey draw at the Legion. Registration is at 12:30 p.m. with cards at 1 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. On November 26 the annual Poor Boy Luncheon will be held. Take-out orders will be available. The day begins with foot care at 10 a.m. Contact Marg Cole at 262-2304 if you are want an appoint- ment. Lunch will be served at 12:00 noon. After lunch a ladies fash- ion show will be held. The day wraps up with card games. The cost is $4 per person. Transportation can be provided If required. The Hensall and District Horticultural Society's annual potluck dinner will be held on November 16 at 6 p.m. at the Hensall United Church. Society member Liz Putherbough will demonstrate a Christmas craft. Dog and cat owners in the Village of Hensall are advised that year 2000. animal tags are now avail- able. Tags are the same cost as 1999. Tags must be purchased by March 15 to avoid a late payment penalty. A reminder also, to pet owners with `life- time registration' for pets, tags for the current year must be obtained. Please drop in to the Municipal office to get your pet's Y2K tag. Property owners in Hensall are reminded that residential taxes are due and payable on November 15. Taxes can be paid at the Municipal Office.
