By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
STEPHEN TWP. --' Not
only is Stephen Twp. rais-
log money to expand its
arena in Huron Park, it
intends to designate the
building as a heritage
building.
Twp. administrator
Larry Brown said the
buildingis of historical,
cultural and recreational
interest.
The building's barrel-
shaped roof, called a
Quonset hut air force
style roof, is unique as is
the building's western -fir
timbre truss, said Brown.
He said the building's
Town manager offered severance package

"We've had our differences over
the the past year over achieving
the goal we expected when we
hired Dave for the position. We
both realized we were heading
towards a dead end."
Hoogenboom added Moyer has
been "a good employee from my
standpoint" over the years.
Moyer was also careful when
contacted by the T -A Tuesday
morning.
"I'm fine with it," he said his
departure. "I'm leaving on good
terms."
When prodded on what led to he
and the town parting ways, Moyer
said he couldn't say more.
"I have no comment on my
departure," he said. "However, I
would like to thank the council,
staff and the community for my
time in Exeter. My family and I
have enjoyed our stay her
immensely."
Moyer said he will move to Owen
Sound to join his wife Suzy and his
two children, Isabelle, 9, and
Madeline, 7. He and his wife own
a property management and con-
sulting business there.
Hundey said just how the town
will replace Moyer isn't known
yet.
"I'm working on options on how
to replace the position," he said.
"We need some help, either short
term hiring or permanent replace-
ment in context of accelerated
decisions on the organization for
amalgamation."
Hundey echoed Hoogenboom's
assessment of Moyer on the job.
"Dave was a valued long-term
employee and I'm going to miss
him," he said.
sand floor is also unique.
The township feels the
building's features are
valuable, Brown said, and
added . designating the
arena a heritage building
is a necessary step in
applying to the Canada
Millennium Partnership
Program for funds for the
building's expansion.
While the estimated cost
of the reconstruction of
the entrance area and
new dressing rooms, a
warm room and conces-
sion stand is $500,000,
Brown • said the
Millennium program can
fund as much as one third
of the project cost.
The application has to
be made by the end of
November and Brown
said the the evaluation
period is 12 weeks.
Of the public fund-rais-
ingtarget of $100,000,
the fund-raising commit-
tee has so far raised
$27,800, BroWn said.
Council will pass a
bylaw designating the
arena a heritage building.
Town pursuing hydro sale
EXETER -- It's not a done deal but town council and
the Exeter Hydro. Electric Commission (HEC) are hop-
ing to play 'let's make a deal' with the former Ontario
Hydro.
After a closed door joint meeting between council
and the HEC Monday night, town chief administrative
officer Rick Hundey was directed to contact Owen
Sound's B.D.O. Dunwoody to act as an advisor to pur-
sue negotiations for the sale of Exeter Hydro.
Mayor Ben Hoogenboom, also a HEC member, said
the decision was made to further negotiate with the
former Ontario Hydro because the offer the company
made was less than satisfactory.
"We don't feel it's high enough," he said.
Council and the HEC hope to negotiate a better price
after a face-to-face meeting with the former Ontario
Hydro to be set up in 10 days to a couple of weeks,
Hoogenboom said.
Council and the HEC also have to keep in mind there
are other power players like Union Gas that could also
make an offer for Exeter Hydro, Hoogenboom added.
