At home Monday, the seniors were doubled by Goderich 50-24. Coach Terry O'Rourke said his team played played well and competed hard but was beaten by a better team. Marilou Hern led the Panther scoring with eight points while Krista Tuininga had seven points and Jessica Davies added five points. The juniors beat Goderich 24-17 but the midgets were torched 62- 14. Both the seniors and midgets won consolation titles at tournaments held last weekend. The senior Panthers travelled to the Kincardine tournament where they defeated Walkerton 29-19 in their first game. Hern led the Panther attack with 12 points with Tuininga adding eight points and Kell' Fulton seven points, The seniors lost game two 45-32 to Centre Dufferin with Fulton scor- ing 12 points and Davies seven points. South Huron defeated St. Anne's 41-36 to take the consolation final. Davies and Hern each scored 12 points while Fulton notched nine points and Jamie Reaburn scored six points. O'Rourke complimented the entire team for their efforts and named Meaghan O'Rourke,, Melissa Prout and Sherri Leveck as other standout players. The midget Panthers travelled to Listowel -kr a tournament on the week- end. Even though fatigue was start- ing to set it, the Panthers crushed Mitchell 43-24. Darling led the charge with 17 points with Tuininga adding nine points. At home last week, the juniors slayed Seaforth 41-8. The score was 14-0 for the Panthers after the first quarter and ran the score up to 20-0 before Seaforth scored their fust basket in the second quar- ter. The score was 30-4 at the half. Kovats said her team played well enough to win easily but are still working on team defence. Jill Jones led offensively with 20 points with. (photo/Craig Bradford) Panther midgets win Goderich tourney again WINGHAM - The South Huron District High School midget boys volleyball team has won the Goderich invitational tour- nament for the third straight year. The Panthers beat Stratford St. Mike's twice at 25-14, St. Anne's 24-21 twice and Stratford 25-13 and 25-16. South Huron lost the first half of the next match 26- 28 but rebounded for a 25-11 win. The Panthers lost the first game of the next match 18-25 to Strathroy but again found the win- ning touch with a 25-13 win. South Huron met Strathroy in the finals and won the first game 25-18. Strathroy bounced back to win game two 18-25 but the Panthers persevered to take the final game 25-18. The midget Panthers won all six of their. games during Huron league play at Wingham F.E. Madill last week. In the first match versus Seaforth, the Panthers won 25-16, 25-14 and 25- 13. In the second match, the Panthers came up against a. strong, competitive Clinton Central Huron team. The midgets man- aged to beat Central Huron 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20. The midgets have lost just one game so far this season and finish in *first place in Huron. The junior Panthers did- n't fare as well. They lost the match to Madill 2-1 (21-25, 19-25, 25-15) but swept Central Huron 25- 19, 25-10 and 25-19. He said the Central Huron team were weak passers which the Panthers took full advan- tage of. The juniors final regular season Huron record stands at 16-8. The senior Panthers lost two of three to Madill 26- 28, 16-25 and ending with a 25-21 win. The seniors did better versus Central Huron, sweeping them 25- 17, 25-18 and 26-24. The seniors final regular season record is 11-13, good for third place in Huron. The Huron semi-finals are Nov. 4 at Goderich. The seniors travelled to Chatham for a tournament on the weekend. but lost all four games against super touch competition. The juniors next play two exhibition tourna- ments, one on Oct. 26 in North Lambton, the sec- ond at Strathroy on Nov. 2. The seniors have three exhibition battles left: they hosted Medway yesterday after press, head St. Mike's on Oct. 30 and join the juniors at the Strathroy tournament. ...y 1.
