Back to school - a time to think about safety
EXETER • Children
have returned to school
and it is time to think
about safety. Drivers are
encouraged to be more
cautious and watch for
children travelling to and
from school. Now is also
a good time for parents
to review safety tips with
their school -aged chil-
dren.
You can join the Block
Parent Program in help-
ing make routes to
school safer.

today.
"When the distinctive
red and white Block
Parent window sign, is
displayed in the window
of a home, children
know a safe adult is
available to offer assis-
tance," says Rose Marie
Danylo Brien, President
of the Block Parent
Program of Canada Inc.
In addition to their
safety network the Block
Parent Program also
provides safety educa-
tion through schools.
In partnership with
educators and police,
Block Parent volunteers
teach children about
street safety, safety at
home and personal safe-
ty. Parents can help rein-
force these lessons by
going on a neighbour-
hood walk with their
children and pointing out
safe and dangerous
places along the way.
Encourage children to
take the same route to
and from school and to
walk with a friend - it is
safer and more fun.
