from Granton attended the
Firemen's breakfast in
Lucan Silliday.
At the Granton United
Church on Sunday, Sept.
12 Pastor Val Hodgins
entitled the sermon, 'Been
there - Done that.'
Following the service
coffee and lemonade were
served as parents regis-
tered their children for
Sunday School.
At St. Paul's Anglican
Church,' Kirkton on
Sunday Sept. 12, 'Rev.
Glenda Meakfn's message
was about reconciliation
ant forgiving one another.
The lessons were read by
Kate Henry and the minis-
ter.
U.C.W. y ,:
U.C.W. Unit 3 met at the
church on September 7.
President Margaret Bryan
opened the meeting with a
reading, followed by the
scripture lesson and
prayer. Margaret read a
story about Friendship
and a prayer. Marguerite
Garrett also had a very
touching story t ed ,'We
need a rock.'
After the usual business,
posters were made for the
U.C.W. annual bazaar an
Saturday, Oct. 23 from 1
to 3 p.m. at the Masonic
Hall with tea at the
church. Turkey and beef
pies and polar fleece jack-
ets will be ,available as
well as many other items.
Refreshments were
served by Margaret Mid
Marguerite.
Clandeboye W.I.
Clandeboye Women's
Institute members and
friends enjoyed a luncheon
meeting in Lucan at the,
'Step back In Time'
restaurant on September
8. The topic was
Citizenship aal Legislation
and the roll call was
answered by naming an
older person you admire.
President Betty McIntyre
chaired the meeting when
arrangements were made
for several upcoming
events and two special
birthdays were remer•
bared. A tour of the Lucan
Post Office completed the
program arranged by con-
vener Lena Hardy.
Granton 4H
On September 2 the
Granton 4H Power of
Produce club went on a
field trip to Loblaw's
Fanshawe Market grocery
store at 5 p.m. The mem-
bers met Susan Lee who
works in, the demonstra-
tion/community meeting
room above the store. She
explained its many pur-
poses including various
cooking classes that are
held there. They toured
the produce department
and sampled papayas, yel-
low tomatoes, Asian pears
ander.
Club president Melissa
Golan thanked. Susan and
presented her with a
'Friend of 4-H' certificate
and thank you card.
After shopping for some
necessary ingredients the
group headed to Lucan for
their meeting at the home
of Melissa Gollan. Once
there, they commenced
with the 4H pledge and
the roll call. Several sheets
of information regarding
fresh produce in Ontario
were handed out for the
members books. They
voted on ideas for the club
name and, `Fresh
Obsessed' was chosen
with 'Eat Smart, love life',
`What's Booking?' and
'Cooking round the clock'
being used as slogans.
Dates and times were
discussed for future meet-
ings before pairing off in
teams to make garden
stir -fry, layered Greek
salad and barbecued
sweet potatoes that were
enjoyed for lunch.
The meeting was closed
with the 4H motto.
Gemma VandenBerg was
the secretary and
reporter.
On Thursday, Sept. 9 the
Granton 4H Club Fresh
Obsessed met at leader
Margaret Bryan's home
commencing with recipe
testing.
Lenny VandenBerg
made peach soup, Colleen
O'Shea and Melissa Gollan
made fruit cocktail and
Gemma VandenBerg
made vinaigrette dressing.
Members showed the
invitation they had made
for the Oct. 7 gathering.
Other plans were made for
this night which will com-
plete the project. A cover
page for the project book
was chosen.
Lenny presented her
youth leader project, a
creative trivia game.
Leader Margaret dis-
cussed eating disorders.
She stressed how impor-
tant it is to feel good about
oneself, despite size and
shape. She also reminded
the members about the
number of servings of fruit
and vegetables that should
be eaten according to
Canada's Healthy Eating.
