In their second game, the Royals scored five runs in the first inning and went on to a 7-4 win over the Waterdown .Rebels. Mark Frayne had the hot bat with a three run first inning home run. Herold and VanVliet contributed two hits each. Cook pitched the complete game for the win, allowing seven hits while sfrildng out eight. The two wins put Exeter in the 'A' division and they faced the OASA `BB' champion Innerkip Eagles on Saturday night. A seven run first inning proved the difference as the Eagles beat Exeter 11-5. Cook started again and the hot day took its toll as he was ineffective, allowing all seven first inning runs. Jon Carr and Mike Dunn each pitched two innings. Carr led the Royals offence with a triple and two runs bat- ted in. On Sunday, Exeter faced the Mississauga Mudcats with the winner advancing to the division semi-finals. Exeter opened the scoring with two first inning runs. Carr reached base on an error and, after two outs, Herold walked and both he and Carr scored on a single by Jones. The Mudcats evened the score in "the third inning with two unearned runs on one hit. Jones then restored the lead with a solo home run leading off the fourth inning. The score remained 3-2 for Exeter till the bottom of the seventh inning after one Mudcats hitter singled, another reached base on an error and both scored on a double leading to a 4-3 Mississauga win. The loss elimi- nated the Royals. Cook pitched a complete game allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out seven. Exeter's overall combined regular season and tournament record was 23-16. Five of the current Royals crop go over age next year and will move on to men's fastball in the new millenium including Cook, Gavin Snell and Darren Kints from the Exeter area. Royals coach/manager Fred Cook said he was pleased with the season, adding the Royals had the best chem- istry of any team he had been associ- ated for many years. "These players represent part of the future of baseball and I hope they will contfnue to participate for years to come," Cook said. GOA roundup Exeter Golf Club September 2 Low net A flt. H.
