Lucan-Ilderton hosts successful
OBA peewee `E' tournament

LUCAN -- Organizers of
the the Ontario Baseball
Association final tourna-
ment in Lucan on the
weekend showed their
guests how it's done.
The Lucan-Ilderton pee-
wee hardball team hosted
the all -Ontario champi-
onship that was won by
the Kendal Royals who
beat Rockwood in the
final.
Lucan-Ilderton was
ousted from the tourna-
ment by the Dashwood
Dawgs 20-12 in the quar-
ter -final.. Lucan Ilderton
lost their first game 6-5 to
Rockwood and won their
second game over
Thamesville 17-7.
Dashwood was rocked
by Rockwood 17-8 in the
semi-final. The Dawgs
lost their first game 18-4
to Kendal.
A special team skills
competition was held
Saturday as part of the
opening ceremonies after
the team introductions.

Three players from each
team made contact with a
ball thrown to them by a
pitching machine. Then
they ran to first and sec-
ond base. The combined
times of each of the team
reps were used to find the
winner.
Kendal won the bunting
competition. Three play-
ers from each team had
three chances to make
contact with the -ball and
bunt it at different targets
on the infield that carried
point values. The three
players points totals were
tallied to find the winner.
Lucan-Ilderton. won the
throwing quickness and
accuracy contest. Brad
Funston, Mike Noyes and
Mark Godwin. represented
Lucan-Ilderton.
Three players from each
team were timed trying to
hit a target at first base
while picking up balls on
the baseline between sec-
ond and third and throw-
ing them as fast as they
could. The timing stopped
when the player hit the
target three times. The
player times were added
together to find the team
winner.
Rockwood won the hit-
ting for distance contest.
Three players from each
team hit three balls off `==
the pitching machine. The
longest hit in fair territory
counted for each player
and their distances were
tallied .to find the team
winner.
Kendal's Jay Hamilton
was named the tourna-
ment MVP for his 13 for
19 hitting and for pitching
a total of eight innings.
