Times Advocate, 1999-06-30, Page 35Wednesday, Juae 30, 1999 • Exeter Times -Advocate 35 Photo finishes at Grand Ben Micro Speedway GRAND BEND —. It was Performance Unlimited night at Grand Bend Micro Speedway Saturday and the show that was put on was some of the best racing that I have seen in -a long time. In the Allsport Junior Micro Sprint 'B' division it was the #73 of Brett Vodden from Port Franks (Hi Tech Auto Care) and the #8 of Steven Hayes from St. Thomas (D H Machine & Tool) picking up heat race wins. The feature race went green to checkered and was non- stop excitement for the entire race. After a long fought battle it was the $19 of Mitchell Stutt from Forest (Roy's Autobody) earning himself a feature victory. In the Allsport Junior Micro Sprint 'A' division it was the #11 of Chris Hearn from Chatham and the #20 of Nicholas McGlone from ..London , (Proline Autobody) collecting heat race Wins. In Ole feature event we saw 12 cars run- ning nose to tail and side by. side bat, ding for a feature victory. After pick- ing off .9 -cars. the #72 of Shawn Thompson from Ailsa Craig (Thompson. Motorsports) took command of the lead with only glow laps to go and held: ..onto the lead until the.. checkered flag- flew. In the Aqua Fina Mini Sprint division it was the #43 of Stephen Rees from -Parkhill (SNE Winnebago) and the #55 of Bradley Phillips from London pick=- ing up heat race wins. In the feature It- was the #30 of Greg Smulders from Dorchester (Woodstock New Holland) piloting his car.into victory lane.. In the Mug Rootbeer Mini Super Truck- division it was the #18 of Darcy. McLennan from I ai ibeth (Husqvarna) capturing both heat race victories. It was by far the bestracing racing I have 'seen in awhile, and from the reaction of the spectators. it was some of the best rac- ing that they have seen, too. It was the #3 of Shaun Jennison of Grand Bend and McLennan running side by side and swapping the lead back and forth on several. occasions for the entire race. As the white flag flew indicating one lap remaining, the two leaders caught up to lap traffic heading in to turn #1. Jennison went low and had a little bit of contact with the lap car, McLennan went high and the lap car stayed in the middle. This is the way these three trucks entered tuns #3 and the way they exit- ed' turn #4 three wide as the fans stood in anticipation to see who would come out on top. There was a roar from the crowd -and Jennison (Goodwrench) edged ' out the McLennan by an inch at the finish line to capture a well- deserved checkered flag. ' • - • In the Pepsi Micro Sprint division it was a three -peat night for the #54 of Darrell Limon out. of Watford. (McRobert Fuels) taking home two heat race wins and a feature victory. The excellent night of racing for Limon was enough for him to regain the points lead. Next week's sponsor is Odyssey X- TreTne Technologies. .This is also the weekend we will draw one lucky spec- • tator to take home the Husgvarna Chainsaw. If you have yet to come out and see the races, you don't know what! you are missing::I• strongly sug- gest you come out to the races, trust me you won't be disappointed. s'-- by Scott Champion, ,Grand Bend Micro Speedway.
