LUCAN BIDDULPH —
Council has agreed to
lease out the former
Village of Lucan office on
Main Street to the
Ausable Centre — but not
without some controver-
sy.
Council issued a notice
of intention to lease the
office to the Ausable
Centre for $1 per year for
five years at a special
June 3 council meeting.
However, councillors
Reg Crawford and Glenn
Silver declared conflicts of
interest on the motion
because they are both
related to real estate
agents who may have
submitted bids on the sale
of the building.
At council's regular
June 22 meeting, Coun.
Harry Wraith said he did-
n't like the deal because
not all councillors voted
on the issue and council
agreed at an earlier meet-
ing to sell the building.
"I'm very concerned
about it," Wraith told
council of their decision to
lease the building, adding
that he believed the vote
to lease was illegal.
Wraith said he wanted
the issue reopened, but
Deputy -Reeve Bob
Benner said he thought
council should have more
time to consider the issue
and deal with it at the
July meeting. Reeve Earl
French said it should go
to the corporate services
committee.
After. several minutes of
arguing about whether or
not the issue should be

Ron Reymer told council
it needed to reach a deci-
sion and stop wasting
time.
Benner said the decision
to lease to the Ausable
Centre didn't conflict with
the earlier decision to sell
the former village office.
Coun. Perry Caskanette,
disagreed, saying the two
motions did conflict.
"How do you sell a
building that's in a five-
year lease?" he asked.

-- Time is of
the essence for a young
dog found abandoned in
Stephen Twp.
The light cream
coloured Siberian Husky -
German Shepherd cross is
scheduled to be destroyed
on June 30 if his owner
does not claim him.
On June 26, police
found the healthy male
dog tied to a tree between
Concession 2/3 and 4/5.
Police then took the dog
to the South Huron
Veterinarian. Clinic in
Zurich.
Tammy Davidson, a reg-
istered vet technician at
the clinic, hopes the dog
can be saved.
She said because the
Humane Society in the
area does not have their
own building they depend
on foster homes to take in
unwanted animals. '
Davidson said right now
a foster home can not be
found for the dog.
If you are interested in
adopting the dog or pro-
viding a foster home call
