Support strong for hog association
CENTRALIA -- Government funding is filtering in to
support the Independent Hog Producer Investment
Corporation.
The Agricultural Adaptation Council (AAC) through
the CanAdapt program has agreed to match investor
funds up to $140,000 for start-up expenses. As well, the
BPAV Fund has forwarded $10,000.
A brief from the Independent Ontario ,Hog Producer
Association says 111 different groups have provided let-
ters of support.
The incorporation and organization of the
Independent Ontario Hog Producer Association is
almost complete. Professionals are drafting the disclo-
sure and other documents required for ,IHPIC and is
expected to be ready by late summer.
Right now, more financial support from members Is
needed to access the matching government funds:
Membership in the association for the first year is $100
with a $50 annual membership fee each subsequent
year.
The volunteer steering committee is informing mem-
bers to be prepared for a $500 contribution for Sept. 1
for the IHPIC.
The (HPIC, a for-profit investment corporation, pro-
poses to invest in selected independent hog processors
to further processing as a form of vertical integration
into the independent meat processing sector.
There will be restrictions on investments by non -inde-
pendent hog producers because IHPIC is intended to be
an investment vehicle owned and controlled primarily
by independent processors.
For more details on IHPIC and IOHPA, call KenPal
Farm Products or look for a more detailed article in the
June 25 edition of Regional Country News.
