She'll be missed
Huron Centennial School secretary June Cooper will
retire at the end of this school year after 21 years
sap behind the desk at the school. Cooper also worked in
the Huron County School Board purchasing depart-
ment for nine years before her time at Huron
Centennial.The last day of school for the RR3 Kippen
resident will be July 7 and a retirement social for
Cooper was held on Sunday. She said she'll miss the
children and the staff. She plans on spending more
time in her flower beds, quilting and making ceramics.,
She also plans on doing some travelling. When you l
are a school secretary you are a mother, a nurse,.a
jack Mall trades,' Cooper said. Her philosophy?"Always wear a smile, be at work or time and limit,
as a team:' Cooper thanks the community for all
their support over the years, especially to her bosses.
"I was very fortunate to work under such excellent
principals and vice -principals," she said.

W.I. tours tea room
and heritage museum
CLANDEBOYE - The
June meeting of
Clandeboye Women's
Institute was attended by
14 members and seven
guests and was held at
Rosehill Bed and
Breakfast and Tea Room.
Rosehill was built in the
late 1860's by John
Guest, a Scottish immi-
grant and is situated on a
hilltop between Birr and
Elginfield. The home was
the birthplace of Emily
Guest who was the force
behind the formation of
numerous Women's
Institutes in Ontario and
England. The Demas fam-
ily acquired the property
and invested three years'
in its restoration. This
included priceless stained
glasis4skidoCitt, . European
drown moldings and fire-
places.
Following tea, Irene
Demas gave the W.I. a
tour of her home. It is fur-
nished with beautiful
antiques which Irene and
her husband have collect-
ed.
The group then went to
the Lucan Heritage
Museum and spent some
time looking at displays of
local artifacts, family his -
tories and memorabilia.

MT. CARMEL - A presentatio
Peter Garland of
John Davidson's trek across riEnada for Jesse's
Journey, was enjoyed by approximately 45 people.
Garland gave a step by step account of John's hike. -
Over $ 300 was collected and donated to 1netic
research. A luncheon social concluded the meeting.
Jeannine Vanneste, Mary Glavin, Elena Nirta, Teresa
Larkin and Helene Regier attended the Annual
Diocesan Convention in Windsor recently. Resolutions
passed onto the Provincial level dealt with: 1. Sexual
harassment in the workplace; 2. Mandatory bicycle
helmets for all ages; 3. Dombind dioxins being sprayed
on gravel roads.
Betty Cronyn chose the '99 bazaar quilt colours and
pattern and saw it to completion. Tickets are on sale
now.
The president presented 25 rosaries to young people
making their first communion.
Diane Hardy and Judy Steeper are organizing a spe-
cial Mass for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Feast Day to be
celebrated July, 1$.
Helene Regier and Mary Hogan are making Honour
Guard sashes in memory of Mary McCann.
The Mt. Carmel youth group were advised that pro-
grams and speakers are available for "True Love
Waits" and "Chastity Way of Life" from the London
Diocese.
Members enjoyed a grocery store tour at
Holtzmann's IGA with "Healthy Lifestyles" nutritionist
Sonia Campagnaro of the Huron County Health Unit.
Jean Fleming and Donna Lesperence were presented
with longtime membership tokens.
A Music Night fundraiser is being planned for
November 5 with Eduard_ Klassen, a harpist, and
choirs from Mt. Carmel.
Diocesan Millenium cookbooks are available for $10
from Barb McCann.
POLICE BRIEFS
Impaired driver
GODERICH — A 23 -year-old Hensall man has been
charged with impaired driving in Goderich. Police
stopped the man for a traffic violation as he was
.pulling into Tim Hortons on June 11 at 2:45 a.m. The
driver was found with an odor of alcohol on his breath
and was given an alcotest registering a fail. He was
arrested for the offence and taken to the local OPP
office for breath tests. He was later released on a
Promise to Appear to attend 'court in Goderich on Aug.
