Spelling bee
at Blue Water
ZURICH - The resi-
dents of Blue Water Rest
Home enjoyed an after-
noon of entertainment
and a picnic supper pro-
vided by the Auxiliary
members. Lois Hodgins
on violin, Claire Masse
and Andrew Rau on gui-
tar, George Mathonia on
accordion and Ivan
Norris on banjo filled the
room with music. A pic-
nic supper was provided
by Auxiliary members.
The Auxiliary will take a
break for two months
before resuming their
program at the Home in
September.
Wednesday afternoon
the residents enjoyed a
spelling bee in the audi-
torium. After achieving
the correct spelling, the
residents discussed the
meaning of the word.
Rev. Tracey Bahro,
Hensall United Church,
conducted Thursday
afternoon chapel service
with the assistance of
organist Dorothy Taylor.
Fr. Matthias Wronski
conducted the Catholic
service.

their noon meal at the
Home. Auxiliary volun-
teer Mary (Curtis)
Gingerich served the,
diners.
Bob Hedley of Grand
Bend showed his green
thumb skills by present-
ing Ate Home with two
petunias hanging baskets
for the courtyard.
Hedley remembers his
friends at the Home and
drops in to visit with the
residents and staff from
time to time.
Francine Learn likes to
be kept busy crocheting
lap afghans, and once
again presented the
Home with three items
she made from materi-
als donated by the
Home. In her retire-
ment, Learn donates her
time to the local rest
home and hospitals
making afghans for the
seniors' comfort.
Best wishes to Jean
Armstrong who is a
patient at Seaforth
Community Hospital. As
an Auxiliary member,
Armstrong was looking
forward to the Auxiliary
picnic with the resi-
dents. She is also one of
the Directors of the
Home. Everyone wishes
her a speedy recovery.
The residents look for-
ward to the Merry
Makers June 7; the
Annual Members meet-
ing June 8; a "Dolls"
afternoon tea June 9;
the Zurich Connection
June 10; a bus trip in
the country June 11;
and Flag Day June 14.
The Home is also gear-
ing up to the Annual
Resident/Family
Summer Dinner to be
held on June 27.
Centralia UCW invited to participate in choir for Father's Day

CENTRALIA - Congratulations to Donna
and Harvey Smith on their 40th wedding
anniversary on June 6. Members of their
family joined in a special celebration at
Riverview Estates Community Centre.
The children of Centralia United Church
and friends enjoyed Fun Night at the church
on June 2 organized by Mary Peterson and
Rob Essery. The next Fun Night will be held
at Kick's Pool in Exeter on June 30 from 6:30
- 7:30 p.m. For more information call
Charlotte Blok at 235-4747.
UCW women from Centralia United church
enjoyed a dinner meeting on June 3. There
were 18 members present. The group decid-
ed to make cookies for Camp Menesetung.
Anyone who would like to . assist should bring
the cookies to the service on June 27. The
next UCW meeting will be held in September.
The Sunday School at Zion West United
Church celebrated their anniversary on June
6. Christopher Hern gave the Prayer of
Approach. Guest speaker Roy Dreaning and
his wife Lauren, told wonderful bible stores
for the children. Holly Hern closed the wor-
ship with the Commissioning and Blessing. A
potluck lunch and games were held at
Brenda and Ivan Hern's home after worship.
Upcoming activities
The women of Centralia United Church are
invited to participate in a Ladies' Choir for
Father's Day worship. Practices will begin
June 10 at 7 p.m. at the Church.
Centralia Sunday School will celebrate their
anniversary on Sunday June 13. This will be
a joint worship at 11:30 a.m. at Centralia
United Church. Guest speaker will be Rev.
Tracy Crick. Everyone is invited to enjoy a
pot luck lunch following Worship.
The Sacrament of Communion will be cele-
brated during worship on June 20.
Confirmation will also be held at Zion West
United Church.
Camp Bimini will host UCW day on June 21
beginning at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a
pot luck lunch.
There are several suppers that people may
want to mark on their calendars. Woodham
United Church will hold a chicken barbecue
at Kirkton Community Centre June 9 from 5
to 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the
door - $10. for adults and $5. for children 12
and under. On June 13, Thames Road will
hold their Strawberry and Ham Supper at.
South Huron Rec Centre from 4:30 to 7:30
p.m. Centralia United Church is organizing
their annual beef barbecue for July 25. More
details will be available later.
Euchre results
High score winners in the euchre games at
Larry's Restaurant in Crediton recently were •....
Helen McDonald and Lila Ellis. Bernice
Squires and Howard Dolan were the lone
hand winners. The low score winners for the
day were Doreen Lightfoot and George
Adams.
